Vistara international flight open ticket rules?

Hello all,
Hope you are doing good.
Needed some clarity on return tickets for international travel, hence reached out.
Someone close has a planned trip for few weeks.
Their return date might be dependent on certain local factors, related to the project.
Vistara airways seem to have some competitive rates and vouchers from the bank.
However their customer care is not confirming fare details for open ticket.
Half of them do not even understand what it means.
it would great if anyone here has had some experience with Vistara.
Greatly appreciate any relevant inputs.
