What's your biggest stock market loss ever & was it ever recovered?
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and have observed that many people here trade in stock market actively. So would like to know what was the biggest loss you ever came across in the journey of stock market.
Starting with me, it happened way back in the time when I was new to the market and was in the belief that large cap stock never makes loss and I was trading on Tata Motors with a long position and it gone. Within few minutes I lost ₹17000 on the spot. Not recovered to be honest I never tried taking revenge trade on it.
Tagging some people I have observed talking about stock market.

Kyu, tune kabhi stock market mein loss nahi khaya kya? De rapa rap Profit only?
My brother was using my DEMAT account for last few years and I was funding him. This was from 2016 – 2018. He applied for New India and General Insurance. WE got allotment for both and that was the biggest loss for me. After I became active investor too but I did not try to recover the losses.
I understand you bro. This year Paytm & CarTrade is giving the same pain to their allotee.
P. S :- Sorry for the late reply I wasn’t getting any notifications from the thread.
I lost 86k in single day in trading (axis bank shares), I kept on losing trying to cover losses.
did recover 42k on next day trading, again on same shares. May be I carried away how can u dupe me.
lesson learned don’t be panic and use stop loss.
Quite similar thing happened with me I kept holding the pain, but I got late. Blood had already started spilling out, it was so late that even after letting it go the wound was still painful.

Couple of lakhs within seconds (edit exaggerated in a day. Majority of the loss happened in seconds). Recovered em all. But took a long time. 😭😭😭
Damn that’s a lot I am sorry for your loss bro. I understand you there are some sayings in the market, that it takes 3X the efforts applied once lost in the market. I wish someone had said this to me in my early days & maybe I would have stayed more alert back then.
2016, Did a F&O crash course from a so called a “Market Guru” from Mumbai. Had paid 30k for the same. Just after completion, the Guru started a NO LOSS tip services for his students for which charged 30k separately, and guess what? He messed up in his very first Tip!! Asked all his students to buy 10k Call heavily and the market fell, and me, a newbie wanted to make most out of it invested 2L!!! As the day went by the premium eroded and by the 7th day I was left with 20k something, 1.8L wiped off, and still that scumbag asked to hold on, but I existed with 20k….Which would have been gone in a swift in the very next day itself….So it was 1.8L loss in 7 days….I never really recovered it to be honest. I left trading or 1 year due to no funds for trading. My 2.5L were gone in a month, 1.8L+60k for course and tip.. After 2017 I started option selling (One lot)and made some decent money but sighting no good ROI I left that too and went back to my roots…Now I am planning to start trading again….
I am sorry for your loss bro it’s really sad how this so called “Market Experts” brain wash newbies regards to the market. Back then, internet was not much readily available how this so called experts were very active offline / with the brokers. Have experienced this in the beginning days. Losing money with these experts is more painful than the market loss since market loss always compensate us with the experience for the future journey. I wish you all the very best for your future trading

Started Trading in June 2021
Lost 1.27 lakhs on 2nd July 2021 in Intraday - Took me 1.5 months to recover it.
Lost 1.04 lakhs on 22nd Feb 2022 in Intraday ... Made 3.1 lakhs in 2 trading sessions on 24th and 25th Feb
Glad that you recovered your all the loss. I never had the guts back then to go for the revenge trade so I just went ahead with the different trade with no intention to recover what I have lost before.

I lost 1.8lakh lakhs in idea call options
Scenario was like:
I brought 1lot of idea call using amount around 2 lakh
Profit was like rocket. Gained +80k on the same day. My inner greedy guy woke up, devil’s woke up.
Next day it started going down and I haven’t put stoploss(worst common mistake by everyone)
And at last my 2 lakh became 30k and as expiry was nearing I sold and withdrew 30k
I am sorry for your loss bro. Have you tried to recover the same? I never had guts to go for revenge trade so I could never recovered mine. In fact, I have lost most of my profits I had received from the market.

1 lot for 2 lakhs?
Thats alot bro, what was the premium
I lost 1.3 Lakhs during self learning in 1.5 yrs and worked on price action. I recovered almost 1 lakhs in another 5 months. I knew it will not be possible to recover it quickly ,so, recovering it slowly.
PS: As per my experience, never sell put in overnight position. However, I always buy , never sold options.
To be a trader, if you are doing loss and learning, then good otherwise all profits what made accidentally without any strategy, market will drain all in one shot.
Glad to hear that you managed to recover most of your loss. That last line BOOM, so true I completely agree with you If you are not using any strategy but have still made handsome returns through randoms plays then just one wrong move & market can drain all the profit earned through it & maybe even the deployed capital. I remember back when people used to trade with offline brokers by trusting them & used to get handsome profits just cause of the broker (without using their own strategies cause not everyone had system that time) many have not only lost the returns earned from the market but also their initial deployed capital. Maybe, I fit with those people too even I have lost most of my profits earned through market.

Bhai tide detergent r u high?
Pura jhaag, jhaag ho gaya hia
Lost around 40k in Yes Bank shares but able to recover all of it in the form of discounts/offers/savings/rewards on credit cards by shifting almost all the household bills/expenses on them. In fact if it wasn't for that loss I would probably have not gotten credit cards or become so familiar with using credit cards for max benefit.
"@admin":https://www.desidime.com/u.../1 Please check as I am not getting notification if tagged in the first post in the thread by op but getting notifications as usual if tagged in any post after that.
Lost around 8 lakh just a few days ago.
Had bought Maruti 9000 CE and Heromoto 2820 CE Feb expiry of both.
Hadn’t invested such huge sum initially but i kept averaging in the hope of it will eventually go up. But it didn’t, my total investment became zero on the day of of expiry, i.e. on Thursday. The biggest issue is that i lost 4 lakh Rs which was kept for house construction which is still going on along with personal capital of 4 lakh. Learned the valuable lesson of greed and stoploss.
Hope i could recover 4 lakh atleast
100 rs

Hi, @Tide_Detergent , People is this forum use funny username just to have fun. I saw your username to be funny.
Hence, I am adding those posts.
If you are not okay with me doing that, I will remember you and not add comments for you.
Also, I would request @admin to remove all the posts I did on this thread expect this one.
I don't do intra day trading or F&O/margin trading.
My investment portfolio took a beating from 15 lakh to 4 lakh in a matter of 8-11 months in the 2008-2009 crash. Big names of yester years just vanished. Lanco, GMR, Reliance Infra, Reliance Energy, Jaypee, Jai Corp, Suzlon, ABAN Offshore (went from like 400 to 5k and now penny stock) etc. Heavy weights recovered... but took a good 9-10 years for the same (recovered by 2017 end).
As of today, my investment consists of 2 demats - One with Heavyweight, Bluest of the blue chip stocks (12-15 out of nifty 50) and other one in search of multi baggers/risky stocks - nano/micro caps, Voldermort stocks and the like with more tilt towards the former.
galti se cartrade ka stock le liya tha, 2 lot 😭
lagta nai ki recover hoga
.
We are in bubble market and market top near 18600 and i think it’s not come next 2 year
It will by the end of coming financial year. We are covered for the next 2-3 years.
I don't trade in F&O
during 2020 crash my pf came down by 50%, though I'm newbie then instead of panic selling or average I waited for recovery. It took 6 months for recovery and another 3 months for 100% profits.
Yes bank.. lost around 1.2L.. 1.5L left with 30k.. that too is locked
You are focussing on the monetary loss in the stock market, the way the loss breaks your ego, confidence, self respect is irrepairable unless you realise it is too late.
I too suffered loss in the 2009 to 2013 timeframe and had given up trading and investing altogether. Have good number of shares who are yet to come to their buying prices , some closed shop.
Started again in “late” 2020, made some profits in investments. Still in loss with trading.
Understood that learning and some time has to be given to share market, else you will end up in the 99% loss making category.
One day - 1.26 Lakh.
One week - straight over 20k loss every day.
The sooner you accept the loss the better it is. Acceptance means going through those 5 stages of grief.
Most of us goes emotionally and do revenge trading.
not the stock market….bt i m at a loss of ₹74 K in Crypto market (right now) 🥲
Lost 5 lacs in FNO in a week (during the Economic Package announcement by GoI).
Thankfully recovered all back through Cyptos.
How to invest in stocks ?

Already lost much in share trading…
I am new to this. Which posts to follow to invest in stocks? Please help me
