So, i started using Orkut in 2007, and i was enjoying that chatting and scrap feature.
Then Facebook came 🤥 probably in 2011 I started using that.

Fanfiction.net, angel something, there were more smaller sites for specific anime/novel/game/drama serials fans and made a lot of international friends from all around the world on those sites. I still have some precious gifts/mementos received from fellow fans/friends from USA, Chile, Jordan, Oman, Japan.
Social media back then wasn't taken over paid bots and hate propaganda.

Facebook, Orkut, MySpace I knew but didn't immediately jump on the bandwagon. Facebook I registered only after everyone else was there but quickly withdrew, and always kept all permissions to everything locked down there. Don't put your phone number on Twitter or Facebook, sign in with user name and password only.
Registered quickly at Twitter though after realizing it was good for ranting and for getting various company services issues resolved quickly or trash them and get it retweeted. 
I think Instagram was the "last" one where I registered (or maybe Discord if you count gaming community). (I never fell for TikTok, and even if it wasn't banned or there's a way to use it, I won't).
That's "social" media. Before that of course, there was WhatsApp, Telegram, Skype etc. Before of course, MSN/Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk. Before that course, email, IRC and internet newsgroups :)

Nimbuzz, ahh..!! Those old days, our age might be quite similar, Nimbuzz + FB was sort of deadly combination that time, there one was more app popular, eBuddy.
Nimbuzz was popular for random stranger talk room sort of thing, that was quite a new idea/thing that time.
