Take Microsoft 365 office. I think you will get 5 TB space for a year. You can create 5 accounts of 1 TB each.

Why do you need ~500gb of cloud space in the first place ?

Anyways, when going for such high storage capacity, focus on 2 things: 1st is that it should be secure and not prone to any disasters, ie. no loss of data at any point of time; This is where major brands like Google, Microsoft, DropBox shine, since they are secure and have disaster recovery fallbacks in place – in fact someone had commented that it’s easier to break into the parliament than breaking into these companies physical storage locations; 2nd is to make sure that in case of a security breach, your data doesn’t falls in wrong hand. This is where encryption and zero knowledge comes into play. However companies like Google, MS, Dropbox don’t (or previously didn’t) support e2e encryption and zero knowledge is a joke to them. You have two options then either use an encryption software before uploading to such drives, like Cryptomator or VeraCrypt mounts; or just use cloud providers that support it out of the box like Mega, pCloud, Sync and all, which are both reputable, and offer zero knowledge along with e2e encryption.

Good details. Thanks.
I have 1-2 TB data in my HDD which I need to backup. Maybe I should buy a backup HDD instead of Cloud then (because I am seeing that Cloud is very costly).
But I have always found manual backup cumbersome.

For smaller storage , 100-500gb go with gdrive.
For 1-5tb go with onedrive

Mega doesn’t work on secure networks dont know why. Still i won’t recommend mega, i dont know but it doesn’t look secure to me.

Dropbox is great but it will costs you more.

With gdrive, you will get free office app (google sheets ,etc).
Withone drive u will get free office tools(365 office excel word, ppt)
So choose between gdrive/onedrive.

Ps i own 100gb gdrive and 1tb onedrive.
Gdrive act as a drive to me like c drive, d drive.
Onedrive act as a folder.
The 5tb plan from onedrive is great (if u have 4 friends) then it will cost u 1-1.2k /year for 1tb + free office

Have explored cloud options and kind of data I want to store. The final conclusion is that I am OK with offline HDD drives for my needs.

Have taken two steps to address my needs:

1. Reduce the data – review critically and delete unwanted stuff

2. Buy the biggest and affordable drives, use it for backup and ensure you keep them safely (esp away from children)

Try this approach till you outrun this above method.

Best practice is to always have a backup of backup. i.e, 2 backups in total.
