Surgical mask is best. Use and throw and has 90% + efficiency. N95 mask loses its efficiency after 4-5 uses and is costly. Cotton mask is worst only 50% efficiency. Any sanitizer with 70% alcohol content is good

Masks dont prevent you getting infected, It is to prevent others from getting infected.. It has always been this way.. You need a respirator to prevent getting infected, it is expensive and also not comfortable to wear.. Also chance of getting infected by surface contact is not possible as the virus is fragile and dies off very fast.. Its an airborne virus.. You need a way to disinfect the air like how you disinfect water using a UV lamp and such… You use a sanitizer for hygiene.. It gets rid of mold and bacteria.. I had no idea most people were so lazy that they never cleaned anything.. Washing your hands is as good as using a sanitizer.. People should by habit practice good hygiene and not because of some meme virus..

I think it is overkill.
Plus, the 2091 filter system is good for a particular particle size which is unfortunately bigger than covid particle size.

Yeah using surgical masks here as well for past six months or so, from the brand Filtra. If any better surgical masks available please let me know. Prior to this I was using the wildcraft mask which was really comfortable, but then read surgical ones are better so switched. For sanitiser using lifebuoy. But used Lupin, Godrej too.

I don’t understand if masks don’t save me from catching the virus then what’s the point! I mean okay that it doesn’t spread the virus from me (if I have it) but I need to save myself too, everyone does! What’s the way out here? WTF

I’ve been using Yorliv 3 ply surgical Mask from Flipkart. Quality is super good which is 400rs for 100 pieces, now they have increased the price and it often comes back in stock. Used Medikare sanitizer, but had a severe skin irritation. So stopped using, just regular handwash.

Somehow this WC hypashield mask was too tough for me to keep on properly and irritating after an hour or so.

I hated this inner cloth

This must be better than most cotton masks out there, just that I switched back to N95 masks from Venus, boldfit, solimo etc after not being able to use this.

Btw, have you used Jockey similar mask like the other dimers are saying.
Might be good too. It’s also 7 layered washable mask

Ensure a proper seal with mask you’re wearing.

Taking steps to improve the way medical masks fit can protect wearers from about 96 percent of the aerosol particles thought to spread the coronavirus, a study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found. That’s provided both people are wearing masks. But even if only one person is wearing a mask tweaked to fit snugly, the wearer is protected from 64.5 percent to 83 percent of potentially virus-carrying particles, the researchers report February 10 in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

“I know some of you are both tired of hearing about masks, as well as tired of wearing them,” CDC director Rochelle Walensky said February 10 during a White House briefing. But scientists have learned in the past year how effective masks can be to protect people from catching COVID-19, she said. “The bottom line is this: Masks work, and they work best when they have a good fit and are worn correctly.”

Still, photos and videos show that air and droplets often escape from the tops, sides and bottoms of ill-fitting masks. “Even a small gap can degrade the performance of your mask by 50 percent,” says Linsey Marr, an environmental engineer at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

Test -

Those studies showed that wearing a mask protects other people from what the wearer spews out. But John Brooks, an infectious diseases physician and the chief medical officer for the CDC’s COVID-19 emergency response, and colleagues wanted to know whether those tricks to make masks fit better had any effect on protecting the mask wearer.

So the researchers set up two manikins facing each other six feet apart. One manikin served as the source, “exhaling” via a tube aerosol particles of saltwater of a size that could carry the coronavirus. (No viruses were used in the experiment.) The other manikin was the receiver. The researchers measured how many saline droplets reached a mouthpiece in the receiving manikin that represented its nose and throat. In some experiments, the team put medical masks on just one of the manikins. In others, both wore masks. The team tried two scenarios to make the mask fit better: knotting the ear loops close to the mask and tucking in the ends to eliminate side gaps; and wearing a cloth mask over the medical mask.

In each set-up, the result was compared with wearing no mask at all. When the receiver wore an ill-fitting mask, the amount of droplets reaching its throat was reduced by 7.5 percent. When the source was the one wearing the mask, the receiver’s exposure was reduced by 41.3 percent. And when both dummies wore masks, particle exposure was 84.3 percent lower than with no mask. That’s pretty good. But not as good as it could be. When the receiver wore a knotted and tucked mask, its exposure was reduced by 64.5 percent. And when both manikins wore the knotted and tucked masks, protection was even stronger: Exposure dropped by a whopping 95.9 percent.

CDC article -:

During January 2021, CDC conducted experimental simulations using pliable elastomeric source and receiver headforms to assess the extent to which two modifications to medical procedure masks, 1) wearing a cloth mask over a medical procedure mask (double masking) and 2) knotting the ear loops of a medical procedure mask where they attach to the mask’s edges and then tucking in and flattening the extra material close to the face (knotted and tucked masks), could improve the fit of these masks and reduce the receiver’s exposure to an aerosol of simulated respiratory droplet particles of the size considered most important for transmitting SARS-CoV-2. The receiver’s exposure was maximally reduced (>95%) when the source and receiver were fitted with modified medical procedure masks. These laboratory-based experiments highlight the importance of good fit to optimize mask performance.

How to make a mask fit better with a simple step-

Start with clean hands — always wash them before handling a new mask (and after taking off a used one).
  • Fold the mask in half, lengthwise, so that the bottom and top strip are edge-to-edge.
  • Take one ear loop and make a knot as close as possible to the corners of the mask; repeat on the other side.
  • Unfold the mask and adapt the flexible nose bridge to your nose. You will see that the mask puffs out more than before.
  • Fold in the corners and put on your better-fitting mask. Adjust as needed.

Options to Improve Mask Fit:

https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/679655/medium/options-mask-fit-small.jpg?1618983165
Nose Wires: Use cloth or medical procedure masks that have a nose wire (a metal strip along the top of the mask) to help prevent air leakage at the top of the mask. Nose wires can also help to prevent fogging of eyeglasses. To get a good fit, make sure to bend the nose wire over your nose to conform to your face.

Mask Fitters and Braces: These devices can be used over a medical procedure mask or a cloth mask to improve the fit by helping to reduce air leakage from around the edges of the mask.

Knotting and Tucking: This technique can be used to improve the fit of a medical procedure mask. Knot the ear loops of the mask where they join the edge of the mask, then fold and tuck the unneeded material under the edges. (For instructions, see the following video)

to Check Mask Fit

  • Check for gaps by cupping your hands around the outside edges of the mask. Make sure no air is flowing from the area near your eyes or from the sides of the mask.
  • If the mask has a good fit, you will feel warm air come through the front of the mask and may be able to see the mask material move in and out with each breath.

How to Improve Filtration

Another important step to increase the protection offered by your mask is to improve filtration. Masks capture respiratory droplets containing the virus when the wearer breathes out, blocking them from reaching the outside air and protecting others. They also serve as a barrier to protect the wearer by capturing respiratory droplets containing the virus breathed out by others, so that the wearer does not breathe them in.

Layering

Improve Mask Fit and Filtration by Wearing Two Masks

Improve fit by pressing the inner mask closer to the face, thereby reducing the amount of air that leaks around the edges of the masks.

  • Improve filtration by adding more layers of material to reduce the number of respiratory droplets containing the virus that come through the masks.
