Which type of Printer can be selected for occasional use?

Please provide valuable suggestions regarding which type of printer can be selected for occasional use for Black & White 30 to 50 pages print monthly.

Whether should go for ink tank, ink jet, laser? All in one printer or single function? Kindly consider following points also:

# Cost of print per page
# Cost of Replacement supplies and Refilling.
# Other maintenance cost if any.

Searched previous posts regarding it but not found any post having proper info. General opinion from google search is to go with ink tank which is costing 10 to 20 paisa per print and it can refilled easily with ink bottle.

Brand and Model suggestions are also preferred.

Your choice is between Ink Tank and Laser. If you are going to take prints at least once ever week, you should go for an all in on Ink Tank. It will give you the facility of color prints and scans, whenever necessary. You can go for the Wi-fi ones, they are very convenient for printing/scanning directly from mobile phones. You can go for the Laser printers, if you will be taking prints with long intervals, and need faster prints, and are sure you wont need color or scans. Print costs should be similar for both.

In my area, black and white print is Rs 2 per page. For just 50 pages, I wouldn't buy a printer

He said OCCASIONAL uses.
You’re suggesting him to buy a laser printer ? Seriously?

@GrabDeal Yes. Because the toner in Laser printer does not dry up and can be used without any problem for even upto 3 years. The inkjet ink dry up or leak out even without use and he will end up either paying for inks he never used or left without ink when he really needs it. The ink may even damage the printer. His total cost of operation will be much higher in case of inkjet printers. Occasional users should not even think of inkjet printers.

Your point is right "@cocay":https://www.desidime.com/users/1...62 but it's very inconvenient to go out for 3-4 pages print within day or two regularly.

Ricoh laser printers are good value for price but keep a few things in mind: Original toner cartridges are expensive. 1.When u refill with toner powder, u also need to replace the chip(₹100) on cartridge. Otherwise printing will look faded. Also printer will sense that u r using the old cartridge and may permanently damage ur printer firmware. 2. Replacement spares for Ricoh like roller and doctor blade are not easily available (as like HP or Canon) in printer market. These will eventually wear off and require renewal.

I never knew that prints would look faded without new chip, and indeed my prints are faded and running from pillar to post all this while. Please suggest where can I get a chip and which brand?

I am using HP MFP 126NW since May 2016. Laserjet Scanner, Copier, Printer. Uses HP 88A toner cartridge which is very common. You can get a reasonably good cartridge for round 500-600. One cartridge lasts for about 1200 to 1500 pages, text. For graphix it will be lower. Refilled cartridges are available for around 300, but never used one. It does not dry up so can be used as long as toner is available in it. Connects over wifi so can be used from laptops and even mobiles. The scanner is generally more used than printing. Has been very useful for printing late night boarding passes. For last 2 months extensively used by my daughter for her online studies and google classroom. For the occasional color print, I use the local shop.

Bought an epson m1100 ink tank printer mrp worth 11000 for around 7000 rs. My daily printing usage is around 150-200 prints so opted for ink tank printers bcoz of cost of prints being less. And problem with epson ink tank printers (don’t know of other brands) is that error occurs a lot of time in these printers. And without knowledge one can’t solve those errors. One benefit for laser printers (I find) is that if any error occurs normal person can even solve those by switching it off and turning on again. And that doesn’t work with ink tank printers. The error remains the same until you solve it.

Please don’t buy an inkjet printer .Those are not economical and cost more per page basis.
Go for any laser printer.

My usage is also 200-500 pages per month, i have HP M1005 MFP laser printer since 2012.

No repairs till date.

Just refill the Toner in 250 from nearby market and it prints around 3000 pages in one refill.

Plus it’s Toner doesn’t have any chip.

After 2-3 refills they charge 150 additional to change the Doctor and Wiper blade inside toner.

Drum cost would be 200-300 after 4-5 refill.

If you don’t switched on the printer even for 3 months, No problem like drying or leaking will arise.

Just switch on and take printout like New printer every time.

Only Drawbacks of this printer is it doesn’t have WiFi connection capabilities. It supports only USB.

But it cost you around 13000 now.

Last thing I would like to mention here is if I sell it now, it is easily sold around 7-8 thousands.

P.s. – if you don’t require scanner then you may go for Hp 1020 plus printer, it has same printer without scanner module.

Hope it help.

If your requirement is only print then go for Epson L130 ink tank @ 7500. It’s not wireless though. You would be saving 5K just by avoiding wireless requirement.

Spending 7500 on an inkjet is not wise when laser printers can b bot around the same price or a thousand rupees more

There are printers that have LAN capability but not wifi. If you have a normal wifi router and not mifi like Jiofi, connecting the printer by LAN cable to the router gives same utility as wifi printer. But printers with only LAN and no wifi cost less than wifi printers.

bhai when we can print directly through mobile phone by connecting printer usb cable to phone then why take hassle of buying wifi printer and looking for lan jugaad etc? 😳

Using Canon LBP6030B since 2016 in office, almost no maintenance cost till today. However, using fresh compatible cartridge of Levera at around 500rs everytime when existing cartridge run-out instead of refilling. Purchased for around 7k. I think single use laserjet of Canon are best.

Ink tank printers are good. Little costly but you can take color or black prints. Cost is same.. Epson is good

My suggestion would be to either go with hp1020 or canon 2900 – both are nearly the same. But mind you these are basic laser printers and have been in the market for a long time and still sells. As someone mentioned they are easy to refill n is cheap to maintain. Doesnt have wifi or duplex features. My experience with inkjet over the years I have owned is that ink dry up/cartridge refill is bit messy and very expensive. I haven’t owned the new ink tank setup ones so can’t comment.
