Please provide valuable suggestions regarding which type of printer can be selected for occasional use for Black & White 30 to 50 pages print monthly.

Whether should go for ink tank, ink jet, laser? All in one printer or single function? Kindly consider following points also:

# Cost of print per page
# Cost of Replacement supplies and Refilling.
# Other maintenance cost if any.

Searched previous posts regarding it but not found any post having proper info. General opinion from google search is to go with ink tank which is costing 10 to 20 paisa per print and it can refilled easily with ink bottle.

Brand and Model suggestions are also preferred.

Your choice is between Ink Tank and Laser. If you are going to take prints at least once ever week, you should go for an all in on Ink Tank. It will give you the facility of color prints and scans, whenever necessary. You can go for the Wi-fi ones, they are very convenient for printing/scanning directly from mobile phones. You can go for the Laser printers, if you will be taking prints with long intervals, and need faster prints, and are sure you wont need color or scans. Print costs should be similar for both.

In my area, black and white print is Rs 2 per page. For just 50 pages, I wouldn't buy a printer

Don’t make him a scapegoat.
He said OCCASIONAL uses.
You’re suggesting him to buy a laser printer ? Seriously?

@GrabDeal Yes. Because the toner in Laser printer does not dry up and can be used without any problem for even upto 3 years. The inkjet ink dry up or leak out even without use and he will end up either paying for inks he never used or left without ink when he really needs it. The ink may even damage the printer. His total cost of operation will be much higher in case of inkjet printers. Occasional users should not even think of inkjet printers.

inkjet is fine for occasional print..do some research if that printer you are buying support ink refilling it will save some money… wi-fi printer is handy but if you have a wifi router you can still convert a normal printer in to wifi printing capacity

Printers are only doing printing. Nothing else. So it’s just a waste to have a printer.

If you can find HP 1115 Ink Advantage Deskjet Printer at around 3k then it could be a reasonably good buy for occasional usage even with new Ink Advantage cartridges later on!

I use printer occasionally. My experience with inkjet cartridge printer was bad. So, I would suggest ink tank printer even if it costs more.

I had HP Deskjet 1510 which is an all-in-one with scan, copy & print. Probably around 2 to 3K when I bought. Their cartridges used to cost around Rs. 500. Company claimed 120 pages for black ink; but in fact, I got around 50 pages only. And colour cartridges are the worst. Ink got dried up, I think. It stopped printing colour and printed only in green grinning I had installed a new black ink cartridge and didn’t use it for around 6 months. HP software says ink is full, but print out will be only blank. Googled and tried few steps to clean cartridge and no use. Now, printer is useless. I didn’t want to waste money on buying new cartridges.

Now, I bought a new ink tank printer itself. About scanning & copying (xerox), that was a rare use for me. Scanning is easier with mobile apps. Earlier camscanner and now, switched to microsoft lens. So, now I have a single function printer (without scan & copy). Its Canon Pixma G1020 costed Rs.10K. VFM. And I thought of using Google cloud print for printing from mobile (wireless). But came to know that Google stopped it sad Tried few alternatives. Mobility Print seemed good free option, but it stopped working after first time. There was Ezeep but it needs credit card; don’t want to risk. Anyone got suggestions on making my USB printer wireless?

I am using Canon MG3070 inkjet from last 3 months. Works perfect so far. I got it from Reliance digital in INR 4000. The package contains 1 black & 1 color cartridge which holds very less ink(say 50-60 pages). You can either refill it or get new cartridge for 600(black one). Its wifi, so you can print from mobile or computer from anywhere in range.

Please do not waste your money on printers, if it is for occasional use. Please take the printouts from shops which is very cheaper as the dimer papa_kancha said.

If you have money to spend, please go with ink tank printer (Durable than Deskjet printers, less maintenance cost and multifunction program) or laser printer (durable and almost zero maintenance cost, but you will get only monochrome prints).

Please do not go with low cost Deskjet printers which uses pair of ink cartridges (1 black and 1 color) which is expensive and it dries quickly if you do not use it very often, then you may need to refill them or replace them, also the cost of one printout is more than taking the printouts outside.
The cost of new set of cartridge is around 1.5k (you can take up to 400 prints), and it comes to refilling, the cost would be around Rs.500/- for both color and black (you can take up to 200 prints, if you take frequent prints, if you take less printouts and leave it idle, the cartridges will dry and you may end up refilling again).
Some people charge around Rs.300/- for refilling both black and color, but it will not last for long, it will give only less printouts.

I have a Deskjet printer which I bought for very less cost (around Rs.3000/- in a sale) in my home and had very bad experience with it by refilling and replacing cartridges.

Hope it helps.
