I don't have iPhone nor I ever want to buy. Will society accept me?
I use phone worth 12.5k from 3 years and still I'm okay with it. I can easily afford to buy iPhone's highest variant or may be something costlier than a iPhone but whenever I think of buying one my mind like what I do with my phone in daily basis ! Taking calls, doing calls, few WhatsApp chats, Twitter & Desidime app and any phone under 30k is enough to do all.
So, do you guys think once in life I must try iPhone? and may be go for iPhone 15 series?

My dad's manager uses iPhone 13 😜, my dad uses 1500 ka Samsung.
It's not about the actual value of things. It is the perceived value. Having an iPhone, because of their marketing, makes people feel that a person must be rich or have refined tastes. It's just the brand that they have built.
For example, I personally feel that people that use iPhones, are people who aren't too tech savvy. But that is just my opinion. 😝
Having one definitely doesn't make you better or worse. It's just how people perceive things.
Most people buy iPhone to show off and impress girls/colleague. Its as simple as that. Op i will suggest you to stay away from that overpriced junk (Thats me though). I tried to live with iPhone but failed badly (had borrowed iPone from a friend to check GUI/user interaction/limitation). I can not live in a walled garden when whole jungle is open for me. I dont expect manufacturer of a device/machine to dictate what is allowed or what is prohibited on their device when i paid full money. As for society, bro only people who value money over person/relation will care what device do you use. If they care then dont give a shit about them. Thats my heartfelt advice.
Your view is limited to rating or social acceptability of iPhone? Are you really bothered whether society accepts you on the basis of the mobile phone you use? A wise man would find it unimaginable.
It's all got to do with paying attention to detail and how far one goes to with the typical chalta toh hai Indian mentality. If your 12k phones are chalta toh hai for those mentioned purposes, no point to bother with iPhones. At the end of the day, the main question is whether you are happy with what you are using.
Yeah, used iPhones and will them again. Extremely polished software and the most reliable phone I have ever used. But then again, its not only iPhone for me, every product I use having close interaction with me on daily basis, I pay a tremendous attention to in carefully choosing them, starting from even the pen for writing to the glasses I wear and so on and so forth.
FOMO
… grape are sour.
Now lets have justification. If anyone don’t want than why are all are here discussing? Leave it, forget it and move on.
Nowdays I’m seeing many BS topics, are DD is paying for impressions too?
And to add, if you are active in DD, there is high probability you are not going to purchase latest Iphone or any luxury item(exclude the discounted). We are dimers and that is the way.
Why not?
If a discussion can help change someone's mindset? 🥴
It is not all overrated.
Some people prefer Iphone for the software stability it offers, built in privacy features without need of third party softwares because not everyone likes to tinker with their phones. Many people just want their phone to work all the time and use it for a multitude of purposes including professional. The data they keep on their phone worth much more (10x - 100x) than the phone itself for them. The walled garden approach of apple works better for them.
Plus iphones are jack of all trades, they usually have above average features in all categories be it camera, battery life and performance instead of many android flagships skewed in one territory.
Many dont bother/ care enough to choose their phones, they just buy the next iphone whenever their old device appears to be struggling.
Many have been trapped by apple in their ecosystem ie. macbook, earlier imessages, airdrop etc.
There are mutitude of reasons to choose apple.
There are many reasons not to too - ie. your budget doesnt permit, you are more used to android, you like to tinker with software of your phone, you are into heavy customization, you dislike apple for their unfriendly approach for phone repairs etc etc.
Always choose what seems to fit you best. For budget always consider what that extra 20k spent on phone could have been used for instead. And if iphone features appeal to you and budget is not a concern then even buying a diamond studded gold iphone is fine I guess.
Because I like my iPhone to last a whole day’s of major usage and yet not look for the charger.
Because I like some stability and love that apps don’t get free run in the background.
If I go poor someday, I would rather use a 5 year old 3rd hand iphone running the latest ios, than a cheap android which might boast wonderful specs but will get bloated and useless within 2 months.
Lastly why does it matter to you, why many people love iPhone? Aren’t you happy with your thing.
Enjoy killing apps to free memory even though you might have loads of it. Enjoy rebooting it frequently just to run it a bit smoother. And yes factory reset it twice a year to make it usable again. And yes the joy of rooting and installing roms, just to make the device lean and shiny. Who knows what else lurks in that device for some mighty surprises in future. Ahhhh! the excitement.
Yes iPhones are overrated, Peace!
Ps: have 14 pro max, felt most of my frnds are able to do same things on 15-30k phones. No rocket science it expect if you could use it to its potential (making videos utilizing it max)
Ps: I also have my old phone s8 and it does the job for me expect the battery.
By the same logic, Sony Bravia shouldn't exist as some Thomson/Kodak TV is there. Why Rolex exists when cheap quartz watches show the same time?
Also, why even Samsung flagships exist?
Most of this discussion is done by people who can't afford these things.
Regarding walled garden, have you ever been asked by your parents to apply some ultra cool icon pack? Or apply a sexy launcher which can do x, y, z?
You know the answer is big NO. Teenagers watch some click bait video on YouTube, waste their precious times customizing their phones, flashing ROMs, modules and stuff and think they are power users.
Bruh... No. You are not learning anything unless you are actively involved in creating that ROM or magisk module. You are simply wasting a part of your brain thinking about these things all day to find the best ROM with best performance, battery backups monitoring their phones all day with Franco app and what not.
Buy whatever you can afford or fits your WORKFLOW. At the end of the day, those youtubers will earn from your views and what you will lose is already described above.
Some times i also feel the same.. why should i buy a phone for more than 14,000.. It all depends from person to person.
using Poco X5 since few months... it's good... calls and all other apps etc... bought for 13,500 and it does all the work as same as 1,30,000 Rs phone my friend bought recently..( if you don't use camera and gaming much)
goto flipkart and amazon you will see many mobiles in 7k range, samsung under 10k,
by that logic i can call anyone idiot for paying anything above 8-9k bcz in 8-9k one can get a big screen touch mobile, 4g, camera and every other feature which your 14k can give or for that matter 1.3 lakh can give.
as has been answered appropriately above, those who rant about iphones being expensive and a thing to show off are infact poor people who cant afford it, so they find excuses in such loose talks, as for the OP he can buy anything in the world but he prefers not to, he should rather pack stuff up and consider leaving for himalayas, people pay for the ecosystem and easy access, you won't understand things unless you use it, apple's factime is far better than any whatsapp video chat or any social media app for video calls with family and friends.
as for the people who actually buy it for show off are bigger idiots in life, these things dont matter at all.
When you can drag and drop images, copy in iPad and paste it on iPhone, markup, share and delete screenshot in one go, never needing to reboot, Have the best camera, no need to clear background apps 🤡 etc.
You will understand why
iPhone has become a status symbol in India and China. I have seen Indian iPhone users insulting others by using words like Gareeb(poor) or Bhikari(beggar). You can see such people in this chat too.
People in US buy them on carrier contracts. It's not that big of a deal. If they had to pay upfront they will switch to mid-rangers.
Most people who tout software stability belong to a minority(like 1%). Others who talk about fluidity of workflow are also in minority. The majority waste their time on TikTok and Instagram. Way to use that A17 Pro.
Wow, looks like my walled garden statement really hurt some people sentiment. 😄😄😄 Anyway use what works for you.
Your question needs a correction. It should be across the world instead of in India.
In one line -
It is the magic of Apple's and American marketing
In more lines -
It has been always marketed as a rich person's phone since it was announced. Everyone wants what the rich person has though it may not be practical / value for money for them. You may have a Maruti Alto but you will dream about a Lamborghini though it is terrible on the roads you have, the ground clearance is pathetic, the mileage is an embarrassing secret and it is difficult to judge where your car starts and ends because you are seated so low. But yeah - the Lamborghini will attract attention like no other car and it will scream to the world you are rich.
You spend some time on social media or news and look at the photos of the rich and famous and everyone is showing off their 3-eyed iPhone (the Pro/Max models, not the less rich's vanilla / Plus model) in selfies. Heck even our Pradhan Sevak has been guilty of showing himself taking selfie with world leaders using, of course, an iPhone.
Apple could very well make and sell an iPhone at Rs 25k or even lower and earn a profit too. They don't want to do that because then the rich people will not feel exclusive. If their chauffeur and cook use an iPhone, then they would rather spend their money on something that sets them a class apart and announces them as rich.
Forget about iphone, people think I'm living in the the dark age when they hear I'm not using facebook (deactivated 7 years ago) and not using Instagram. Honestly, facebook is just another whatsapp forward junk and insta is boring, data guzzling , also for exhibitionists who crave for attention/likes. I'm ok with those who are running business.
P.S. just noticed a few comments and can't believe their tones! iphones are dirt cheap in countries like USA, Japan (due to carrier contracts and Japanese hates Koreans and Chinese due to WW2 crimes) and not as pricey like in India!
Some even compared iphone with rolex watches and sony premium tvs?!! Rolex never compromise their prices with tie-ups with other companies anywhere around the world unlike Apple phones. Same for sony.
And I don't know what's up with rebooting word, after Samsung galaxy failed miserably, I've been using Poco for 4 and half years, without ever switching off! (Not even at night due to missing any emergency call).
Middle class sees iPhone as a status symbol that's why its overrated.
Maybe it's overrated but don't forget its ordinary thing in the U.S . iPhone has 50% share in the smartphone market
