Why most channels are not even HD on DTH

All of us have at least 43 inch LEDs at home, and the channels we got in DTH are SD and few of them are HD (not even full HD).

HD (720p)  should be minimum and prime channels should have FULL HD resolution else DTH will soon be outdated like Landline / DVD etc.

Hence iptv is good for full hd, 4k.content

There are still old generation guys in India, they are not comfortable in ott apps kind of things. They like simple remote button setup.

Still many channels are using 480p resolution, you have to buy Tvs that supports picture upscaling.

You have to subscribe to HD channels in DTH to view the content in full HD. HD channels are sometimes costlier than SD channels but offer very good quality and sound.

Agree, but everything takes times.

4-5 years ago, we were on dth and switching to pure ott  was a drastic change and took us almost 5-6 months to adapt to it... Now no one even remembers what dth is.

Full hd, no ads, smooth experience.

Reason is same as with everything in this country. Chalta to hai. If there was a shred of interest behind quality things, we would have been different.

Switched to DTH in 2014 for this reason alone, HD channels mainly sports. While still having most of them in SD. My parents say yeah HD definitely look better, but SD is fine too. Didn't argue, not worth it. But now with new trai crap and 4 times increase in price DTH is not feasible.

What is this IPTV thing btw? If it's anything like that OTT thing please don't bother, I can't stand that OTT stuff.

All TV support upscaling but upscaling is very processor intensive depending on difference between source & screen resolution so even the most expensive TV can not upscale smoothly/correctly a 480p video to 4k or even 1080p. For upscaling low resolution to high resolution smoothly & in a good looking manner the only good option is pc with powerful processor+graphics card+specialized software.
