Introducing New Forum Design for All Users

Hey guys,

We are completely re-vamping the Forum design on Desktop and M-site after around 5 to 6 years… Its one of the major change which will get rolled out to you in next couple of hours…

Why such a big change suddenly?

To be very frank, its not a sudden change and we have ourselves used the new layout/design for past 1.5 months before rolling out to all… And yes we have been contemplating such a change from a long time…

The forum page in its current form was very unhelpful for New Dimers or new visitors to the website… With around 8-9 sticky, the sub-forums etc.. all the real deals were very much down and was lot of inconvenience for New Dimers to figure out the deals.

Also many never figured out how to see Latest deals in forums etc.. So we are hoping the new design will solve some of the pressing UX problems.

Why no votes? Why only hotness?

Over the last one year, we have worked a lot on Hotness algorithm and we will continue to evolve it to push better and better deals up the chain irrespective of simply “votes”

In current Forum page, 5 green smileys would show up even for deal having 40 votes vs one having 6 votes… It was never intuitive enough to understand the hotness of the deal..

With hotness, we are trying our best to automatically show the best deals on very top and Hotness currently is not depndent on what your “best friend” in the community thinks.. it considers clicks, views and much more…

While moving away from smileys may feel a bit odd, you will strongly feel the difference after few days or a week.

Easier switching of Forums

We understand many users would like to switch between forums and we have tried it to make it as much easier as we can.

Improved Search

If you are searching for deals, you wont find discussion clutter when looking for deals.

Choose your layout and it applies site-wide

If you prefer to see deals in a Grid format, simply select that layout and same layout will apply in Home page, Forum page, Search page etc..

If you prefer a less image heavy Text layout, We have got you covered too.

Hope you guys enjoy the change… While it may become slightly difficult initially (specially for hard core users out there), We can assure you that you will appreciate the change as time passes by

Yes, why should the no if results differ whether I log in or not.

You are compelling us to log in when we do not want to.

Earlier I could see all results even if i do not log in, but now I cant see it.

It seems that search is working for thread title only….earlier search keyword is used to search inside the thread as well… And used to give more search records…. Now very less records

Yes, we plan to introduce continuous scrolling soon.. but since there are some issues like refresh, back option etc.. We will be introducing infinite scrolling as a settings option so users can turn on/off as per their liking.

I usually dont log in much but am/RATHER WAS a frequent user of DD.
With this new version, YIKES. I have stopped VISITING DD altogether.
SEARCH is HORRIBLE. Cant find anything.
I used to spend hours altogether and now its less than minutes in a day.

Is there anyway to get back OLD DESKTOP version???

So it’s been 10 days since I last commented, and in these ten days I tried my ‘very best’ to get used with the newly introduced design, and the verdict is, I still can’t get used with this, I stick to my previous opinion, this new UI is simply horrendous.

I also am baffled that if I click on a topic and check details, and then when I click back to go back to the previous page, it presents me to somewhere I don’t understand, like a paradox! I scroll up and down but still don’t get where I previously was!

Really comical thing going on.

@admin I hope you guys have Omniture or Google Analytics tag implemented (I haven’t checked that) to see track your UV’s, PV’s, time spent, etc. but I reckon couple of key metrics like time spent per session and outbound clicks would be taking a beating after this redesign.

I have always loved DD and I have been quietly trying to get used to this redesign; but a week later I still can’t – it just doesn’t work for me intuitively like the previous layout. As a result, I have been frequenting the site less and when I do, I get annoyed in just a short while and move on.

Kindly listen to your community members and revert to the earlier layout. Why fix what’s not broken?
