You need to buy a router with WDS but first you must know that using WDS will slow down your internet speed to 50% and also u must ask your hostel authorities for permission because doing this will also reduce internet speed of other users. One more thing-Your hostel’s router should also have WDS Feature,if it does not have this feature than you cannot to this. Some routers are:-
TP-LINK 1043ND(Good if you want some extra features like usb etc at a limited budget,I am using it and it is an awesome router)
TP-LINK TL-WR740N 150Mbps Wireless N Router
TP-LINK TL-WR841N 300Mbps Wireless N Router
TP-LINK TL-WR720N 150 Mbps Wireless N Router
Netgear N300 WIRELESS ROUTER (JWNR2000)

You can find more on flipkart.
You must do lot of research before buying a WiFi router, even a router with best features might give connectivity problems like auto restarting due to unstable firmware or low range. You must also take into account environment in which router is going to work for eg if there are lot of metal items like steel almirah then router’s signal will be reflected by the almirah decreasing the range of the router.

Its range is good covers properly 1st floor also, signal drop is not there. Also u can use 3g dongle and pendrive.

TP-LINK TD-W8968 or D-Link DSL-2750U are compatible with fiber optic cable?

@beaware: Are you still looking to buy a router?
Going by TP-Link TD-W8968 product page on their website, it claims it should be compatible with fiber optic cables: http://www.tp-link.in/products/details/cat-15_T... . I started cross checking across the net to confirm this and I found some good reviews by Amazon customers stating that it’s working well for both BSNL Broadband and ACT Fibre internet connections, which supports their claim: http://www.amazon.in/TP-Link-TD-W8968-Wireless-...

I also looked into D-Link DSL-2750U product page on their website, did not find any details about fiber optics cables compatibility in their specifications and FAQs: http://www.dlink.co.in/products/?p...52 , after digging further into this and I found some mix reviews by Amazon customers stating that its working with BSNL Fiber Broadband however it isn’t working with ACT Fiber internet: http://www.amazon.in/D-Link-DSL-2750U-Wireless-...

The best price for both these products I have found are:
1) TP-Link TD-W8968 N300 Wireless ADSL2+ Router for Rs. 1781 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.in/TP-Link-TD-W8968-Wireless-...
2) D-Link DSL-2750U Wireless N 300 ADSL2+ 4-Port Wi-Fi Router with Modem for Rs. 1544 on Amazon: https://www.snapdeal.com/product/dlink-150-mbps...

Conclusion: DSL-2750U is the cheaper option, however personally, TP Link has stated its product capabilities on their website and even Amazon customer reviews are good in terms of Fiber optic connections. Also both of them have similar specifications, except TP-LINK TD-W8968 also supports a USB port along with a better assurity of the fiber optics connections working with it so I feel this would be the better product even at a higher pricing of Rs. 237.

Do let me know which Router you have taken and a review on its overall performance.

@yashsirodariya553: Deal Babaji prasan hue, it’s good to hear that your router is working wonderfully! The range of my router goes pretty far as well, which is the reason why my pace of walking is slower near my home while leaving… hope this is not the case with you too:-p! As for the login interface, that is mostly just a one time thing which you look at only during installation and later during maintenance if needed right? Also in case you are using fiber optics, could you let us know how are the iball baton’s capabilities in this matter?
