Samsung is good, but I personally feel Moto will be better in terms of long run, battery and build quality

When someone asks for a suggestion to gift a phone for elders I would suggest a Moto series phone too depending on the budget. One major disadvantage with most phones these days is the metal back, though it’s sturdy and holds up better on a long run it’s a pain to use the phone with such slippery surfaces. Apart from that I prefer the smoothness of stock UI than any heavy theme.

Moto E3 power or Moto G4 series would be quite apt.

Thanks for tagging me here @sherlock https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif.

@kipte.khoka: I agree with @raghupro (remember him making the same point in a previous post, helpful as always https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif ), Motorola phones are a good, comfortable choice, however first I would like to ask you if it’s a surprise gift or she knows about it? If she knows about it, you can ask her if there is any brand she prefers, or besides calling and messaging what else would she use the phone for in her pass time? Like some people tend to use it more for photography, some for browsing the internet for window shopping, some for gaming, etc. Also, what is your budget? https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

You can also read through these topics where there was a discussion on buying a phone for their father https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif:
i) For @sherlock father (more so why he must have tagged me here https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif): https://www.desidime.com/forums/deal-baba/topic...
ii) For @maxdealer father: https://www.desidime.com/forums/deal-baba/topic...

Tagged them, since they have been in a similar situation in the past and should be able to help https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif.

Thx for tagging. Bought Redmi note 3 for my dad, first few months no worries, but now He sometimes faces d probs ppl have reported in that phone — apps not opening, camera not taking clear pics etc. I don’t have any other ref point to go by, but I would guess an older / more reputed / established brand should be better if one is looking for “risk free” and “ease of use” goals

I bought Redmi 3s for my father. Recently it’s hardware keys (Vol up/down, capacitive touch buttons) stopped working all of a sudden. He called me from another phone asking what to do. Finally I suggested him to let it discharge and tun itself out (the best curse of non-removable battery). It started working as expected.

Verdict – Moto (any model)

I think most phones with non-removable batteries can be restarted by pushing the power button for 10-20 seconds.
No Idea about Redmi though..

512 mb Ram is enough for her
Super AMOLED display
5 mp camera is good enough too.
Samsung means good build quality & call quality
.

Not worth it
Better get her a basic smartphone than this
This J1 Ace might lag a lot

I’ll suggest you to wait for Moto G5/G5 Plus as this time these will be priced cheaper than the predecessors but expected launch in markets is around/after mid-March only.
