Trai receives most complaints against Airtel for call drops

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has received the highest number of complaints for call drops against Bharti Airtel, followed by Vodafone, Idea Cellular and BSNL till June this year.

There were 31 complaints of call drops against Airtel, 17 against Vodafone and 10 each for BSNL and Idea Cellular, minister for communications and information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

Call drop can occur due to various reasons, including insufficient coverage due to paucity of mobile towers and handover failure due to network congestion on account of more users in a particular area.

However, on Tuesday, according to a Trai survey, Bharti Airtel emerged the best mobile network with least number call drops in Mumbai roads while in Delhi, Tata (CDMA) was the best network in the same criteria, according to a two-day drive test conducted by the regulator.

In Mumbai, the call drop rate for Airtel was the least at 0.97 per cent, while the highest was for Idea Cellular at 5.56 per cent. Except for one operator, no operator is meeting the prescribed benchmark, TRAI said.

However, TRAI said the main limitations of a Drive test are that it is based on the data collected at a specific point in time.

Also, it shows the network conditions/performance only along the route covered by the Drive test vehicle and does not reflect the long term performance of the networks nor does it reflect the network conditions away from the route covered. In national capital, Tata (CDMA) emerged as the best with just 0.84 per cent call drop rate. While maximum was recorded for Reliance at 17.29 per cent.

“As per TRAI’s regulations, TRAI has been monitoring the performance for service providers against the quality of service benchmarks for the various parameters through quarterly performance monitoring reports,” Prasad said. The call drop rate should be less than 2 per cent, according to the TRAI benchmark.

“According to service providers, the common reasons attributed to call drops are equipment faults, frequent load shedding in some circles, difficulty in site acquisition, shutting of existing mobile towers due to radiation concerns and restrictions near international border,” he said.

The department of telecom has asked TRAI to give its views as to whether the customers can be compensated for dropped calls.
“Meetings with telecom service providers have been held in April as well as second week of July, 2015 on the call drop issue, wherein they have been asked to take immediate measures to address issues of call drops by radio frequency optimisation, installation of new sites and in-building solutions,” Prasad added.

Dear Sir,

This is to draw your attention to the level of services Airtel is providing these days to my prepaid connection (9935135015).Similar serious irregularities in services are reported by several customers residing at IIT Kanpur campus for more than a year.

I lodged my complain to customer care & nodal officer at Lucknow (Ref. No.: 2001201016824) several times in last 15 days for my pre-paid mobile connection-number 9935135015)about the problem of “No NETWORK COVERAGE/SIM REGISTRATION FAILED”.

Airtel customer care replied back to me once (beyond the schedule period) saying….“We would like to inform you that we have checked our system and found that your number is active as per our records. Hence we request you to check your SIM in the nearest
Airtel Relationship Centre and also, be informed that you can avail a
duplicate SIM at the cost Rs. 25/- to initiate further action.”

Following their suggestion I visited the nearest Airtel relationship
office at Lajpat Nagar (Kanpur).The office replied me that my number is no more active and even the SIM replacement will not work as the number (corresponding record) may be under deletion.

I am using this number form 2005 and now all on a sudden the services are in danger of termination. I have recently recharged my number as well. It seems I am going to loose all the money as well and face unprecedented inconvenience as neither me nor other can contact each other with this number.

I am very much disturbed to find the sudden interruption in Airtel services. And even more the way they are treating the case. Similar problems are also reported by few of my colleagues in last one year repeatedly and they even had to complain to this forum.

I request an urgent help to this problem.

The matter in the complaint is unfortunate and the reply diplomatic. Airtel is really going great guns in excelling for bad service. Since the customer in concern did not intend to leave / loose / surrender his SIM card and his number is deleted from the database, it seems that Airtel is selling information / numbers to outfits which address our nation’s security.

This problem should either be addressed immediately, and the customer should be suitably compensated or Airtel should pull off its services from India.

i Recharged for 91 rs 5 times for watching ipl final on 29 may. the recharge benifit is 1 gb 3g for 2 days. as i am hardcore YouTuber, so like to watch many shows online which i missed like Adaalat, Steal your girlfriend, and many more. Now, here comes the point…. my all 5 recharge of 91 each went successful and transaction ids generated. i didn’t got the benifit of recharges to tweeted them and they said your recharges failed and refund will be credited back in 7-10 days. 10 days are passed now but I still not got the refund so i tweeted them back and this what they replied blow my mind. They said you have got the benifit and used all 5gb of data thier reply make me ported from Airtel to Vodafone yesterday. they was lying blatantly over call. i lost my 455 rs. i made 4 recharges using my airtel app and 1 through mobikwik. The said thing is my airtel app even not showing a single recharge in transaction history of that day. Airtel Sucks Now

Good news for Mobile, Landline and Broadband customers who are facing tough time dealing with complaints, TRAI has made the process much simpler now you dont need to knock nodal officers door for any complain related issue.

TRAI Makes Resolution of Complaints Faster Now No Need to Approach Nodal Officers

Previously one has to call Customer Care / Call Center (CC) to register a complain and if not resolved then one has to approach the Nodal officer then again with Applet and the last option was TRAI from today onwards one does not have to deal with Nodal officers .

As per the new process one has to call 198 from all private operators and 1503 for state run MTNL/BSNL (toll free) file a complaint for any issue regarding Mobile Service, wait for 3 days if the issue is not resolved you can directly knock the doors of Appellate Authority but you have to make sure you should have the complaint number as shared by CC guys before approaching Appellate and wait for 7 days.

If the consumer is not satisfied with the resolution of the complaints, he can approach the Appellate Authority for redressal of his complaints. Appeal may be submitted with Appellate Authority through E-mail or FAX or Post or in person, without paying any fee. If the issue is not resolved after 7 days u have to get the appeal number and approach TRAI and file a complain using the online portal –> tccms.gov.in.

Bsnl Network is the most worst network which i have face i have register the complaint 2 ro 3 times for Network for calling i have to go out of my room every time still not having proper network. Network is to week and voice quality is to week. After registering the complaint they told us to wait for 7 days to resolve this complaint in between if we try to call them they tell us it’s in progress. idea network is very worst network,
they detecting the amount regularly,and they sending the message with wrong packs ,after activating the pack ,they saying this is not wright pack.
i am so worried on this network.
they sending messages this pack is free ,put they taking charges after activating pack.if we wrongly activated pack means ,if we inform that same time also ,they responding us…they cheating all persons…

Airtel band name is good, but sorry to say service is too poor, i have registered for new broadband connection reference no.9024648 on 13apr, next day 14apr the executive came & collected the documents with Rs.1000 from us no receipt has been given to us, when we asked him, he said within 24hrs you will get the mail confirmation and 3 fancy number which you have to select and confirm, immediately you will get the connection within 24hrs. no mail came but mr.karthick exe. came for connection he said to us he belongs to other area, i will update in… Read more »

1st experiance is last experiance. I got my number port from VF to idea as promissed by idea rental plan 350 packages are 8hrs talk time any network 1 pc 2 sc any net accross india 350 Local and national Sms free 1gb 3g post 2g unlimited. now surprised to see that bill generated in diff scheme idea claims its the executive mistake that she has given wrong info and got the number ported and regreted the inconveyance caused to me but demanding me to utilize the service and make payment now i was shock to hear this from customer… Read more »

I applied for National Mobile Number Portability (NMNP), (porting is being done from Delhi circle to Delhi circle from Idea to Airtel network, i.e. Idea to Airtel and Prepaid to postpaid) and the application was submitted on 04/04/2016, Porting id is ID784384. The number that I am porting is 9718714018. I got a call from 9971862226 (Pradeep) for a vilification as he is not able to find my residence address and abusing me without listening my landmark and other way.. my landline bsnl of VALASARAVAKKAM, EXCHANGE was disconnect from oct first week of 2015. i complaint several times. automatic message will come your docket no. is resolved. I approched the AE of valasaravakkam, exchange. they told within two days we will solve your problem. still know there is no solution for my report. i report to delhi head office also. they reply me that will forward this report to chennai head office, they take necessary action as quick as possible.then also there is no result. but i am paying the monthly bill as on date. in bsnl the only service… Read more »

Yaar, I am keeping patience from last 2-3 months, they have closed case no 4-5 times without resolving..

So, I have to fight with Nodal officer , who disconnected the line after 10 min., discussed with Appellate authority for 40 min. , who promised to conduct survey , still they defaulted and stating no response fromy side.lol..

Now, only TRAI can solve the matter.
