I have tried to login getting this message
" Authentication required
We will text you a One Time Password (OTP) to authenticate your request. "

So I think for all users get this message !

If you have multiple accounts then you may have to be active mobile number as well otherwise you can’t login !

let me go out on a limb.. and put this on the record: I just logged in, into an old and a not so old account WITHOUT anything except the usual login and password, AFTER SEEING YOUR post.

for clarity, both those accounts have no semi-closed wallet wahtsoever.
as in, either there was the Amazon Money account started, but now successfully closed
or
none to begin with.

since there is no proper way to reach real people with real brains in the wallet company http://amazon.in/b?node=8520697031, the customer service reps. just babble gibberish like: your account is inactive and it’s the same as closed.
whereas, in reality, as per the same bloody guidelines of RBU, they have to not harass us if we want to close it.

once that crap is closed, Amazon property care two pence about anything but basic e-mail/number (login) and password.

can take my account credentials (over e-mail) and try for yourselves.

else, don’t trust me.. go to Amazon CN, Fr, De, Co.UK or any other property > create a dummy account there > use same login and password at IN and in so far as u know, one won’t be forced to give otp off e-mail or mobile.
(in-fact, when creating that dummy account: give only e-mail as login credentials )

P.S.: in whichever accounts i still have active Amazon Money/wallet accounts.. i do occasionally use offers.
so it was with accounts in which the wallet account is successfully closed.
at times, for prime or other reasons, some account’s credentials were even shared with relatives or acquaintances.

even otherwise, i don’t keep tabs on where I open what account.
both my phones, tablets and computers have been intermittently been used to operate two of my main accounts, three spare ones.
I f asked by Pops or need be, I also do check his account on same device/s.

this has been: forever
and for the IN property since August 2013 (site went live in July 2013, both my primary DOT IN centric accounts had orders during the 2013 Independence week sale.)
NEVER have I faced a lockout on those two or the subsequent three accounts (for different families/addresses).. except when I myself suspected some misuse by someone or my relative’s device for lost while they used my password to access prime content.
then: it was only upon my own request that the team would “lock” access (temporarily).
same as with mobile operators.
i placed the unlock request when I wanted to.

few accounts do sometimes ask about OTP, but that’s more like change in ISP, routine IP range
or
them sometimes upgrading/testing their own site.
