I think this move is justified. That was bound to happen. How long will Amazon ship Rs. 10 product free for all the prime users. Even I ordered Rs. 5 product from pantry, for which at least Rs 30 was spend in packaging and shipping by Amazon. Earlier Pantry was 500 off 2000, Now 300 Off 2000. But at the same time we get 15% cashback on adding Amazon Pay Balance. There are couple of deals every month with at least 80% off. Hence Prime Membership is worth.

Fuuuu*k!
I’m a regular pantry user, and order whenever I want something, like vim dish washer, or surf Excel.
And the main reason for purchasing prime was to use pantry.
My pantry orders hover around 100 to 200 rupees.

A really bad move from Amazon.

Yep
Even my order amount is around 100rs and I order like 3 days a week
Now the only option left is Amazon now (with Pay Balance) where prices are at MRP

So it was users like you and @getready who ruined this for everyone, eh? Just kidding.

I actually stopped ordering from Pantry long ago after getting sick of following up with them for cashback and getting incorrect/damaged items.

Anyway, their no-charge and no minimum order policy always seemed untenable and absurd to me. Next up is Amazon Now. Be ready.

Isn’t it better to introduce some upper cap on number of free deliveries per month..that way people won’t keep on ordering every day

They should reduce min order amount to a reasonable 200-300

20 is not much, bro. People who care for their own time and realize the petrol cost of visiting BigBazaar/D-Mart would still prefer to order from Amazon and BigBasket.

Anyway, it’s all about profitability in the Indian eCommerce space now. The days of offering crazy/free services to lure the most number of customers are surely over.

Non- prime members

A minimum total order amount of Rs. 599 for items Fulfilled by Amazon is required for an order to qualify for free delivery. A delivery charge of Rs. 50 will be charged for orders below Rs. 599.

I thought so… It didn’t make any sense to give free delivery for items as low as 20 rs. But atleast the min. Order amount for prime members for free delivery could’ve been 250 rs. Else what’s the use of paying 500 rs per year for prime membership?

True.. Now i feel very strange though.. In Cities like Ahmedabad, pantry isn’t even launched yet and so this change has only notional impact on users like me.

And if we just place 10 orders per year.. we’re ending up paying 50 rs per order for prime membership.

+1

1 Keeping Min delivery at 250 for Prime and 1000 for Non-prime would have been the right move in my opinion also… Keeping it free w/o min delivery or keeping min delivery for free for 599+, both look like bit extreme in this context…

2 Min fee of 20 for orders less than 599 applies only to pantry aka grocery section…for other non-pantry store stuff, delivery is still free even if item price is less 250, of course for prime… And that keeps prime membership useful…

Yes but pantry free delivery was too good offer for ordering those low priced discounted items. Now who’ll make the cart value 599 just to purchase those discounted individual products?

Agree.

But then may be it was too good..that’s why misused and unsustainable!! And current limit of 599 is clearly high and bad..As I said, 250 would have been more healthy, reasonable-and perhaps even sustainable financially for them..?

Initially there was Rs.20 charge for non prime members (pantry orders). Now it is increased to 49. So they would be more unhappy https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif
