Amazon Prime Sucks, Don't fall Prey

I was subscribed to Amazon’s much advertised Prime this month. But had horrible experience https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif .

My main reason for Prime was to get products quickly but after subscribing to Prime I came to know that courier guys really don’t have any idea of this product. I am receiving products like before, Amazon fulfilled orders. There is no such quick delivery. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

Amazon have not at all trained their courier staff regarding Prime. They are simply selling this product on their site, but on ground there is not much difference in terms of delivery. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Since its a busy season for them with 3-4 so called “Great Indian Festival” sales, they might have hired bunch of lazy guys to do the job, which resulted in fake tracking updates, delayed delivery, which was not expected from Amazon https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_rolleyes.gif

Even though Amazon US funding truck load of money to Amazon India, I see their service going downwards only. I am not sure whats the reason https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_cool.gif

Also prime free shipping does not apply to all products. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_eek.gif

After series of bad experiences, contacting their support many times, I end up cancelling their Prime, as I was not getting the Prime benefit. Read their terms, you may not get full refund of Prime, you will get only proportional amount https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_rolleyes.gif

The only benefit you can get is, if you buy lot of penny products regularly https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif then free shipping comes useful.

Think twice before subscribing to Prime because delivery time is same as before. Why to waste additional 500 for such fake product.

Please share your experience about Prime, whether Amazon providing you full benefits what they are promising?

I have subscribed to Prime service. I believe it’s been almost 3 weeks since i subscribed to Prime and during the course of last 3 weeks, i must have ordered atleast 30 items which includes kitchen home items, some groceries, electronics etc. Although i stay in Bangalore but i place orders for my family in Chennai and Delhi also. Here is my short review.

1) Prime service Bangalore : I stay in BTM layout and Prime service here is absolutely amazing. Most orderes get shipped same day and gets delivered by next day or at most by third day. Ordered some pasta from Amazon yesterday around 10 am and received the product by 5 pm. The only problem with Amazon courier guys in Bangalore is, they will call you each time before delivering to get the directions in spite of the fact that i stay in a fairly popular area on the main road. Most courier guys are reluctant to bring the order to second floor. They cite that their bag is heavy and ask me to pickup the item from the main road. I have no issues in doing that but i have noticed that most Amazon delivery boys on bikes now have two guys. don;t understand why can’t one guy overlook the bag while the other delivers to product to the doorstep.

2) Chennai : Amazon courier guys in Chennai are much better lot. They are polite and efficient. They deliver your product with a smile. Out of 10 orders placed, they have just called once to get directions before delivering. Delivery timelines varies from 1- 3 days for most items. Not bad for Chennai.

3) Delhi : In one word, horrible. Amazon has hired a bunch of inefficient, rude and lazy asses in Delhi. Forget about sticking to delivery timeless, they even send your order back after updating fake details such as complete address missing, customer not available etc. I had ordered some items for mom which was supposed to delivered on 20th but they made 2 fake updates and sent the product back to Amazon. I have already sent a strongly worded email to Amazon customer care and most likely will forward it to Jeff bezos himself. Amazon supervisor offered 1 month prime extension for missing delivery guidelines. I asked him to do me a favor and keep it with himself.

@cybertechie

Yeah the one thing I hate most about amazon delivery guys is calling 3-4 times for delivery. My address is pretty straight forward and the landmark close to my house is pretty much famous in our area. They just don’t want to read the complete address and call before they even start from office, once when the reach the area (sometimes a confirmation call when they are near the house ), no one is available in the address (they go to the ground floor even though I would have clearly mentioned first floor in BOLD).

Even guys who have delivered previously call me and ask if it is the same house and that’s irritating. No other couriers have ever bothered to call me for deliveries as the address is so easy to find.

Also amazon for some weird reason splits the products in my order into multiple packages (they all would be shipped from the same ware house in Bangalore), send them to different distribution centers and my mom/dad have to accept these deliveries every 30 mins. I had got 12 deliveries in total last friday from 12 different delivery guys the entire day. It was only 2 orders and 6 products (multiple no’s though)

Same problem here. Hate the order being split. Wont mind if i receivethe products 12 hrs late.

But the most iirritating part in receiving calls and giving directions. (i think it wud b easy for people staying in flats/apartments). Being from a tier 2 city i find the amazon staff is huge here. Every other day a new guy (may be they shud have one guy for one particulararea).
Or they shud have customers gps location. (ATLEASTthe prime customers) . Plz lets start giving this suggestion to amazon if its ok.

ATS is degrading day by day

At many locations in India, ATS gave franchise to some assh0les without proper background enquiry or because the person had contacts working at ATS. Pondicherry is one such case. In the beginning, their service here was just horrible. I used to see the delivery guys suffer under pressure because of poor manpower on top of a very low pay scale. After repeated complaints to Amazon over a period of two years, ATS opened a second warehouse (the franchise was offered to the previous owner’s brother himself… in India, filthy business acquaintances reach till the deep pit of hell itself) to which a part of the existing workforce was initially transferred but later they roped in a few more boys. They also added a few fulfillment centers as well. It is only in the last few months that I see the boys being a bit relaxed. But I must say that they were always polite and smiling despite the pressure they were under.

@cybertechie When I was talking to an Amazon agent once about the issue, he said that the plight of delivery teams in Delhi, Hyderabad and a few other centers was exactly the same as ours and that their team was working on it. Thankfully, it is a bit better now here. Looks like they have not been able to fix it in Delhi yet.

@Achilles How is it in Hyderabad?

There is no doubting the fact that Amazon’s is indeed degrading by the day. It stands true for the Customer Service executives as well as delivery. The no of days they take to deliver an order has increased. The delivery boys in NCR were never polite anyways.
Having said that – they are still far better than FK/SD.

Personal Experience
I ordered 3 days back from SD and Amazon and approx same time.
Estimated Delivery for SD – 30th Oct
Esitmated Delivery for AZ – 31st Oct
Reached out to both to get the same delivered by 26th as I would be leaving for my hometown for Diwali Holidays.
AZ delivery guy called me and it will be delivered today . SD is not even shipped

For Prime
My understanding is Prime is giving you access to free delivery but does not necessarily mean faster delivery.
A non prime customer’s order will be treated in the same way as a Prime customer’s. The difference being in the amount which a non prime customer would have had to pay as shipping charges.

BTW have you guys noticed the removal of option to option to save chat from Amazon

Deal Subedar Deal Subedar

Quality deteriorating without any doubt. We are now witnessing menial standards in terms of customer service and logistics department both. But it’s still very much bearable at least for me until Amazon sustains the standards which set them apart from the league here.

I guess there is a lot of misunderstanding about prime services. No package has the tag of a prime customer and would be delivered normally by the carrier. Your prime benefits are differentiated right at the time of placing order. There are different shipping speeds and are offered for free (discounted for same-day delivery and morning delivery) wherein you can chose it. As many have observed fast shipping options are offered only if the system knows the product can be delivered in the short time frame. If you are in a Bangalore (hypothetically) and if the product is in Haryana warehouse the system wouldn’t offer you the same day or morning delivery. It needs a lot of time to mature with warehouses in every state and consider prime only for the free shipping advantage.

With more added services the prime charges only tend to go up and that is when people who wants it only for free shipping will know the value of the current prime avatar.

@ranjithsai01 : Agreed, best thing they can do to separate prime shipments is to use different colored boxes for packing. So that courier guys know about prime and ship faster.

Once they introduce Amazon video in India for the same Prime price, then there will be lot of takers but I don’t think video will come that cheap, so they may charge additional price for prime video.

That is what they don’t want to do. Prime is a smart business product and is not meant to benefit the customers alone. They want to retain customers and make them shop on amazon just because they have bought the subscription. By giving the option of free shipping they are making customers feel that they are saving a lot of money (which is true only if someone is buying lots of FMCG products with huge price differences as we have seen over the past week). As I told if possible they give fast shipping (free for Prime) else the usual shipping speeds and they don’t care if you are prime or not.

In India they would do well by having a standalone shipping prime membership and a full fledged prime membership. We don’t have good speeds to stream high quality content or have the need to pay for it (Few here may take the moral high ground about this and I have no arguments about it).

Pathetic, they are not even trying to deliver nor call simply marking as customer rejected (where in I was awaiting for the delivery and even called amazon after the 1st attempt when the tracking said customer not available:shock: )

This is to inform you that a package from your order with order ID 403-5xxxxxx8-8xxxx, shipped via Amazon Transportation Services, is being returned to our Fulfilment Centre.

Orders can be returned for a number of reasons including lack of address information or failed delivery attempts. Labels can also become smudged or torn in transit rendering the delivery address incomplete.

If you’ve already paid for the order, we will initiate a full refund once the package is received at our Fulfilment Centre. We will send you an email once we process the refund.

Unfortunately, we’re unable to re-dispatch orders that are returned to us as undeliverable. If you still want these items, we’d suggest that you return to our website and place a new order.

I personally think the delay is due to the unprecedented festival orders they might have received, lets wait for this to get over to decide whether they have gone down on service and delivery, at least for the prime users, lets not jump to conclusion, as far as i m concerned, Amazon is the best among all ecom providers in india in terms of service and returns, etc. no second toughts about it. I am a prime user and might have brought around 15 products till now, all penny ones though, after subscribing to prime and all deliveries happened as usual and i did not want them early also.

lets give amazon a chance after the diwali sale, just my two cents.

An update for all prime haters. It was funny when I asked a supervisor about the penalties for missing delivery timeline. Instead of telling me what I asked she came up with a new explanation (it’s not true actually though fast prime shipments are always fulfilled by ATS)

Amazon:Yes and I would like to inform you that the Amazon Prime is for Amazon fulfilled orders + Ats courier that is amazon courier services .
And this package is assigned to IPS that is India post and we cannot promise a prime delivery with India post courier assigned to your package .
We apologize for the inconvenience .

They penalize who for late delivery? Their own courier ATS? Complete rubbish from Amazon to say so.
Instead they should compensate customer who is the real sufferer.

Well done, bro! These good-for-nothing “customer service” agents should be taught to not make up things on the fly!

Until early 2015, speaking to Amazon agents used to be a delightful experience. I used to wonder how much Amazon must be paying for such smart, capable, and well articulate people.

And now, just earlier today, I felt like pulling my hair out when chatting with an Amazon support CSR. #ChangeOfTimes CC @Magus

I’ve been following your posts about Prime. You think all those who write negatively about Amazon services do so based on one or two bad instances? Most of us are long-time avid online shoppers to the extent of being called Amazon fanboys. It is only after repeated interactions with different levels of their support team that we conclude things. Moreover, it’s more than just Prime that we are concerned with here. So, it’s better to stop being all nice about them and start looking at facts. Hope you get it.
