This seems good for online purchases. Is it like a Virtual card? If yes, do they give you a card number?

Or is it a online payment gateway like Paypal (login and password)?

Similar to Wallets like Paytm/Mobikwik but not Virtual Card.
Like a normal Amex credit card, you can use eZclick + you also get 15 digit card number(fixed, not a one time usage card) to make online transactions.

@disclaimer: Thanks for the quick reply. Still not clear on some parts:- So you do get a permanent card number? Then you can use this “card” on any website which supports AmEx , right? Then when you make a payment using the “card” , it takes you to Amex gateway and gives you choice of using preloaded cash or debit card or netbanking (just like how Paytm/Mobiquik works), is this how it works?

Yes, a permanent card number/eZclick ID, with max balance in the account restricted to Rs 10000(so indirectly means max transaction value can be Rs 10000). Will work at all websites supporting eZclick, but might not be the case with those supporting only card number. Payment using the balance in account only, no other option at the payment page, unlike Paytm.

Just another wallet, but maximum limit Rs 10000. No option to get the one supporting Rs. 50000.

If any order refund makes the balance exceed Rs 10K, the excess amount will be credited back to the account you used to fund it.

How did you manage to get an Amex debit card issued in India?

It’s not of much use to me if it cannot be loaded using credit card.

Most wallets allow loading using CC.

Thats because of the payment gateway. They are not handling the non requirement of safekey for Amex gift cards on the return leg from Amex Server. So when this happens, the money is debited from gift card, but since payment gateway checks for safekey it fails on PayTM.

After couple of days, since PayTM doesn’t claim that money it automatically gets refunded to Gift card.
