Hey guys, So there is a new scam related to Google Pay QR Code going on to dupe individuals and particularly small businesses.... Letting you guys know as many people have lately been fallen victims to the trick. 1) You receive a message on Whatsapp or call for enquiry of some services you sell. 2) The Fraudster asks you if you accept payments via Google Pay or not.... If you mention other wallets like Paytm or PhonePe, the Fraudster insists on only using Google Pay... ("Something is Fishy! Warning 1") 6119572F2ZYyq8 3) You send your UPI ID to the Fraudster... He insists on sharing QR Code ("Something is Fishy! Warning 2") 4) You share the QR code... 61195722J3dnsF 5) Now after an hour or 2 or during business hours, the person calls you... (He/she calls during Office/business hours) Saying i am transferring the amount to your account... He asks you to stay on phone line and tries to help you... (saying go under all transactions, click pay etc... ) 6) You also Receive a message in Google Pay about transfer amount and guess what it reads "Receive Money" 61195722c8VIeb Here's the trick... The fraudster is using Note feature of Google Pay to write the trick words "Receive Money".... Google has given that option to give the context of the transaction... But notice the amount reads -5100 (Easy to miss on a Call or busy schedule) 7) After you tap on transaction, you are presented with this screen.... The fraudster asks you to enter your pin so you get the money immediately in your bank account.... However, if you are alert enough on the phone, you might notice that you are actually paying Google clearly shows the user icons etc... but Google should make this More and More obvious... 6119572x1C8vAD The fraudster asks you to stay on the call.... since he/she knows that while keeping you busy, it would be easier to scam you with the text "Receive Money" Google do send you SMS which is more obvious but remember you are on the Call..... 6119572ABKiHTo I hope Google Pay makes it super-obvious to the person entering the PIN with alert message like "Your account will be debited with Rs. 5100" prompt message.... Be careful guys.... The fraudsters are trying new tricks to get your hard-earned money

It's dangerous how the font that says -5100 is written in blue. Ideally it should be written in red.Google should sincerely consider these minute feedbacks to improve user experience! smile

@P_A_N_K_A_J is right.
Simple logic:
“If you are entering UPI pin, money goes from you.”
It’s that simple.

There are only 2 things that can be done here.

1a. When a debit request is received, masked as ‘receive money’, Google should put this text on top clearly that ‘money will be debited from your account’.
OR
Debit request background can be red color to alert even busy users like small shopkeepers.

1b. Alerts can be provided timely that PIN is required ONLY to send money, and not while receiving. This is already being done by banks.

2. Users using the app need to learn in the first place that PIN is required only while sending money, not receiving.

IT IS NOT A ‘GOOGLE QR SCAM’, ITS A COMMON SCAM FOR ALL UPI/QR/BHIM APPS.

All users aware of this, please educate your parents, younger siblings, shop workers or business helpers, domestic help about this that PIN is only needed while sending money, not while getting.

PS: Another thing we all can do is send feedback to NCPI to allow a fraud notification options within 30 mins or 1 hour to transaction, so that the receiver account can be blocked and receiver can be traced. Our combined effort can make a difference.

@P_A_N_K_A_J You are absolutely correct. Being dumb is stupid and stupid is ignorance, unwise, showing poor judgement or little intelligence.
I will call myself stupid/dumb if i left open my door and robbery happens, I will be stupid if i keep my wallet in back pocket in a crowded bus.
I will be stupid/dumb if i want to drive a car but ignore to learn how to put brakes.
Sameway when you want to utilize the technology but ignore to learn it fully, you are dumb and stupid.
In this tech era no one can save you from being cheated or scammed but only you.

You don’t need to enter UPI pin to receive money, it is needed only for payments and balance enquiries.

Note : Don’t click any links / web pages you receive in your e-mail , it may install dangerous malware app in your phone and spy all your otp , password , etc
For receiving money you won’t need to enter Pin : Most Important !
Also don’t respond to call or sms saying you won lucky draw or prize & finally don’t provide your aadhaar , pan , bank details , etc otherwise you lose your money & your bank account becames * ZERO * balance in seconds !

if you receive any such request, DO NOT enter PIN, also do not decline the transaction. Keep it in hanging state, force close the app and file an FIR.

guy tried doing it with me through olx. I had uploaded an ad and he responded to that. First pretended to negotiate with me. I realized something is fishy so i checked his olx account it showed that he is a member from 2021 (that a point to note). Then he asked me to share my location and then shared a QR code. I immediately condemned him and canceled the call. He then immediately deleted the msg.

please beware of the people sending their code for payment recently found this fraudulent when I was supporting my friend small business, I gave this client who said he is from Indian Army in whatsapp, he must be using someone fake picture, back then I didn’t knew there is such thing, he send me a QR code for ₹1 payment I click on that to received, he said this is army code, I got ₹3 back in my account and then it clicked my mind than and there, he send me again 11999 QR code so I transfer all my account money to another account. Then I try to process but it didn’t work I knew it somehow it was fraud.

this is for the general information they are not asking for link or anything they’re sending QR code to prey the small business for online transaction or the innocent peoples. Be aware of this kind of  peoples
