Best Mobile Plan for Keeping Indian Mobile Number Alive

Hi All Dimers, Happy New Year! I left India for work 3.5 years ago and moved to Australia. I'm a Vodafone postpaid customer (Mumbai circle) and I'm on some billing plan which is not even offered anymore (450 p.m. and allowing 600 mins and 2GB data flushed ... Keep in mind that this was pre Jio and VF had no reason to be competitive at that time). I'll be visiting India later this month and I was thinking of converting this plan firstly to prepaid and then looking for options within prepaid. My main requirements are: * Receive incoming SMS OTP's on international roaming (and so putting this number as dormant is not an option) * Allow top up online - I don't foresee coming back to India at least for 2-3 years after this trip so online top-up recharge is a must So far the best one from my research seems to be the 1499 plan for 365 days validity (https://vodafone.in/prepaid/best-prepaid-...s# - last one on that page). The only thing I care about is being able to receive incoming SMS on international roaming for which Vodafone has been working great so far. I've heard Jio has has problems in this area. Also open to porting to another provider if a better offer exists. Thanks guys!

I am using airtel in kuwait. For otp you just need a validity in your sim. For calling Airtel 445rs with free 75 min roaming for 3 month is best

Thanks.

That works out to 445*4 = 1780 per year. Don’t really care about roaming.

If you just want to keep your sim alive, recharge it with Rs 49 plan every 28 days.

If the validity pack extension thing is true, nothing like it.

Vodafone 4G is already here. It’s one of the poorest networks. There’s a bit of history but in summary, for coverage, Telstra is the best, followed by Optus and then Vodafone is the last. Its based on how long they’ve been in operation here and hence, have had the most time in improving coverage.

They’re all implementing 5G, but the cost doesn’t really justify it at the moment. Maybe once cheaper plans start becoming available. 4G is pretty good for now.

Found the 49 plan https://www.vodafone.in/prepaid/best-prepaid...ns > Value Pack > All-Rounder – First one in the list.

Confirmed it provides for 49, 38 Limited validity talktime, Local/National Calls @ 2.5p/sec and 100 MB Data Pack Validity for 28 Days

This would be awesome if they offer it. Is this recharge available online, do you know? Airtel’s site doesn’t list it.

This is another issue with BSNL/MTNL. At least with private telcos, their website will definitely work, so online recharge is possible.

With BSNL/MTNL the issues with their websites can mean recharge is not possible.
