Hello dimers,
Guys, i would suggest you all to check your Credit/debit card statements very carefully. I have been billed twice for multiple transactions by PayU amounting to a lot of rupees. I got my Citibank statement today and i was surprised by the high bill. When i went through my statement, found that there has been multiple duplicate entries by PayU. I knew there was something fishy since i never received any Email alert/SMS alert regarding the said duplicate transactions.
I Spoke to a Citibank rep who was as confused as me and as per the Citibank rep, his system shows only single transactions however PayU has claimed for the same transactions twice from Citibank billing department and this explains why i never got any sms for the duplicate transactions.
Citibank has raised dispute on the transactions and offered me temporary credit till the investigation is complete. I was wondering after this episode how safe are payment gateways such as payU and i’m also shocked by the lackluster approach of Citibank who billed me for the transaction that was never even registered in their system.

Bro, I am just sharing my experience. wallets like fc/oxi/ etc and other sites It never went smooth. few txns have to fails.
Ask @getready also
also, my money is blocked in my payu acct for more than a month. its not at all getting transferred. always throws error.
talking on ur second part, never faced such situation and good to hear atleast they are doing good on thier part.
Bro, you are again using language like “never went smooth”. Earlier, you said “always fails”. This why I called your statements “very unfair”.Although I have “never” faced any transaction failures because of PayU servers acting up, I refrained from using words like always or never. Heck, PayU servers ran solid even during the 100% cashback or 90% discount sales at Pepperfry, eBay, Shopclues, etc. when those shopping sites were having constant issues because of the load.
As for your issues about transferring money from the wallet, that’s a different ball-game and it wouldn’t be right to discuss those issues in this context.
Previously it used to work fine
3 out of 4 times transactions failed when i tried to add money to freecharge. My 10k still stuck because of this. Money gets debited and in the final step it doesn’t redirect to freecharge website
I have complained to freecharge like multiple times and they always keeps repeating the same thing "Payment is successful at PG end but due to unknows reasons your wallet hasn’t been updated
And the next day, I was trying to add money to PayU wallet but it was successful. 2 out of 2 payumoney add money transactions were successful
when I tried to check the bank statements, billers were different Payu.in for freecharge n payumoney.com for payu website
Better to Stay Away from These type Wallets/Payment Gatways And Use Default Gateway , In Anything Happens We Can Rely On Shopping Site.
I think PayU is the default gateway for freecharge, atleast for cc/dc payments

In last 1-2 month my 5-6 transactions were failed in freecharge but till now i didnt received any refund from PG
I tried to add 2.5k with Pockets card on freecharge and it failed
But to my surprise, got refund within 2 days
but its different with other cards. Still Waiting but freecharge already notified me that refund has been initiated and it will take 5-7 days time
I have 11 cards, 4 cc, 3 add-on, 4 debit cards, but did not received any repeat or duplicate transactions with any pg till date.
just I follow this , maintained excel sheet for every months for each cards, also if payment failed then try with another card, thats it.

my bad bro, not always but very often and u can see @getready & others also shared their exp…
and talking abt my wallet issue its the same coz as confirmed by payu cc, payu is getway payment entity and they have also confirmed that there are hell lots of issues at their getway coz of which txns are facing hell lot of probs…
as i said earlier ur issue which u faced is diff coz it failed while using at a site rather than loading wallets… good to see that their buyer benefits/protection is playing fair enough….
Can’t believe there are so many who don’t keep track of their transactions. It takes less than half a minute to make a note of your transaction in an app. You probably already spent upto 5 minutes during the transaction. What’s another 30 seconds? I personally use Finasncisto, an app for android, to keep track of all my transactions. It’s pretty basic and far from perfecf but gets the job done. And there’s 100s of other even better apps for such needs on play store. I buy a lot of axis prepaid cards and not once I had to check the sms to know the balance as I already have it in the app.
About payu, while I don’t use it too much, it ends up on my CC statement quite a bit as a lot of sites use payu as payment gateway. Never had double charge for anything yet thankfully. Even if it does there’s no way they (or anyone else) can get away with it! Just a couple of days ago bought something for 1600 odd bucks on amazon using amz credits. Added the transaction in the app and realized my amazon balance was showing 150 more in that app than it did in my amazon account. Rechecked and found out there was an additional charge of rs 150 for delivery. Maybe I didn’t see it during check out or it got added after I finsihed payment. Either way cancelled the order right away and ordered the item from another seller with free delivery. So always keep track. Especially now when there are so many wallets and accounts we have.

guys, be careful with payu and its gateway whereever its used. it always fails.
C’mon, bro, that’s a very unfair statement. I have rarely faced any issues with PayU. In fact, I feel the most relaxed when a site has PayU because they have the most reliable and trustworthy payment gateway.Just the other day, PayU took care of my refund claim in 5 days for a Shopclues transactions that was charged but the order got stuck in “checkout incomplete” because of a hiccup in the Shopclues servers. PayU is my favorite among all of the payment gateways/wallets.
Ah! Of course mine also, i love that 1% discount everywhere

You mean you entered OTP only once for each txn and got billed twice?
Exactly! I got OTP and alerts for only one transaction however i was billed twice . I keep all my Citi email alerts in separate folders and i can see that Citi has sent alerts for only one transaction. When i spoke to Citibank rep, he also confirmed that his system shows only one transaction however, payU has claimed twice for the same transaction . Like i mentioned earlier, even the Citibank rep was perplexed since he wasn’t sure why Citibank billing department allowed the merchant to claim for the transaction twice. This is a very concerning issue and i have asked for a formal explanation from Citibank failing which i will take them to Banking ombudsman for malpractices.
@DealSeeker wrote:
@cybertechie I have never faced this problem with PayU. Seems like I now need to check my Axis prepaid card statements rather than my CC statements.
By the way, can you please mention the date(s) and the month(s) of such duplicate transactions?
12th of October. All the duplicate transaction happened on this day. This was the day i believe there was some Snapdeal sale.I remember placing a few orders with Snapdeal and a few other websites that day.
This incident got me thinking about a crazy situation.
A Citibank customer goes to a local merchant and buys some expensive items with his CC and he signs the charge slip . After few days he notices a duplicate transaction in his statement. Citibank justifies the same saying that merchant has claimed it twice although you never authorized the the duplicate transaction in the first place.
I wonder as a customer what you can do here.

Always keep your first copy handy !!
Don let the merchant swipe the same card twice !!
change the card or pay by cash !!
Citi has a big flaw for authentication !!
it lets users use an otp for 30 mins !!
Plus no otp resend option !!

That is quite strange. Was PayU the payment gateway for Woohoo transaction? I’m surprised both you and me had duplicate transaction on the same day with the same bank.
Yes, payumoney only

Did you get in touch with Citibank? If the answer is yes, what was their reply?
