Beware!! Vodafone sending recharge amount request on phone pe
Deal Expired

First of all sorry to post in hot deal section.. I couldn’t find image upload option while posting in dost and dimes

I was shocked to see this message..

VODAFONE IDEA LIMITED has requested money from you on PhonePe. Rs.459 will be debited from your account on approving the request – phon.pe/**** (link to approve requests)

Now that I’m just recharging my number 35 / month.. And this number is registered on phone pe.. And Vodafone has started doing this? I mean.. Really.. Would you believe?

It’s AutoPay option that you have selected, try to deny it, there are 2 options clearly mentioning approve or deny.

OP is making this point – why would Vodafone ask for such an amount in the first place? Whether one pays or does not pay is another matter. Vodafone is cheating people here – that is the point.

May be it’s not vodafone….may be it’s someone who’s trying to recharge for vodafone via upi payment method and accidentally or intentionally put ur phonepe upi id.

most possibly it was initiated by someone else trying to recharge his own number and not vodafone

Anyone can save name as any name in any upi app and then request money. I believe it is that simple. PhonePe or Vodafone has no role in this. So never approve any such request.

It can either be a previous request if it from Vodafone, otherwise it’s a common scam now a days

There was no previous recharge done, no auto pay or no recharge intimated on Vodafone/ phone pe app or any other app using api.. Or any shop using api .. .. I always do it from Amazon /paytm… I wouldn’t have posted if it was done previously.. And I always recharged 35..

They only connection is the number is same.. Nothing else..

The message OP got has any number on it ?

VODAFONE IDEA LIMITED has requested money from you on PhonePe. Rs.459 will be debited from your account on approving the request – phon.pe/**** (link to approve requests)” – any phone number mentioned on message ?

If no it could be someone else has put Op’s phonepe UPI address instead of his / her hence Op getting the request. Common for UPI addresses with simple phone number only or it could be someone who knows OP.

As many others have already mentioned, may be
1) someome trying to recharge there no. from some other app/site, accidentally put ur upi id.. since phonepe UPI ID is just [email protected], its possible.

2) someone trying to do option (1) intensionally to see if someone accepts the request.

Option-1 Happened with me 2-3times when I accidentally put a wrong UPI ID, on verification got another name.. sometimes got it corrected.. sometimes out of habit I proceeded with it, because I know which option to select upon verification, And exercise the option as soon as verification result comes before realising the mistake.. then had to cancel transaction.

I haven’t used autopay.. but isn’t autopay supposed to carry on with transaction without authorization.. that is why autopay is used, so one doesn’t need to go through same process everytime

Anyways, this is scary but not for well-aware dimers of course !! But think parents or those not very technology savvy. Better ask the older generation to not use such modern methods at all. People had been losing money through netbanking. UPI is too easy for a scammer in comparison. Once I got a call from somebody in Bihar wanting to gift me money. When asked how he got my number he says everything is available for sale. He even knew how many accounts, cards, and life insurance I have. And all this while I thought I am safe because being 15 years in IT I knew all scamming methods and how to stay safe !! I was wrong.

whenever you get such calls just hang up the phone – I mean you know you did not won any gift or participated in some competition so just hang up the phone. This is what I do whenever I get such calls – mostly telcos and our e-commerce sites / their employees sell such data to these scammers but they just can not do anything without an input from our end.
