Does anyone know how much do progresive bifocal lens specs (both + & – power) cost in local market?

These online stores are showing 3-4-6k and more for these type of glasses. Even the fancy shops quote similar or higher prices for them. I am told that these shops have 100-200% profit on higher prices items.

What prices can we get if we go to the places were optical wholesale/spec making shops are located? Specific brands??

Anyone knows?

PS: talking about progresive lens based spectacles.. not the ones with two sections in the glass.

if it is for anyone close and/or seniors, and there are any ‘Lawrence and Mayo’ outlets at your location, we highly recommend that you visit some of them.

wouldn’t like to comment on hypotheticals. (everything from vegetables to speciality vehicles can have good markups and one can find insider pricing or get the same cheaper if one knows their way around).

one thing about Varilux progressive lenses though:
not everyone may get accustomed to them or some specific ailments of eyes might make it unsuitable for long use.
so it’s better to not rely on “free check up if you buy glasses” type offers and rather visit the ophthalmology department of a proper hospital or a dedicated eye hospital.

about Lawrence and Mayo;
they are not cheap
they are not flybynight (here today, wound up tomorrow)
they are very professional and usually the staff is pretty knowledgeable.
(the one who suggested the Mont Blanc to Maa, had sneakily checked the one Maa was using and profiled her capacity to pay, suggested something he thought she might afford if discount is right. had it not been for such staff, she might not have even considered).

rest of the things are there too, like good selection across outlets and excellent customer service.

thus, you/patient can recce few outlets, get all concerns or specific queries addressed by them (for free :P) and go forwards from there.
at-least you’d get fair idea of prices and L&M source directly so chances of fakes, counterfeits is practically nil.
you seem to be from Bengaluru.
is Vasan Eye care just a hospital or is also a chain of shops?
at other places we have bought/ordered specs and lenses from Vaasan. They too are good.👌

monopolistic companies (brands) like Essilor (Varilux, Crizal) or Bausch (Bausch and Lomb) can add brand premium so they do so and their innovations do make the products pricier.
thus, depending on the frame and properties of the glass/polymer (treatment like anti glare) the 3000+ range is basic.

just so it doesn’t feel we’ve personal interest in Lawrence and Mayo, let us tell you that occasionally we too have had hiccups with them.
like some staff just being disinterested or not up to the mark.
or the timelines not being met.
about that last one smile
back in 1994-1995 we lived in a Tier-2 city and the outlet my family preferred was about 22-23 kilometres from the suburban locality.
someone had placed the spectacles request there and got a date commitment for the same to be ready.
when they went into the.main city and that outlet on the said date, L&M either didn’t have it ready or some nosepad or something was defective.
the customer/end user was pressed for time and showed their displeasure.
so upon realising that she cannot come back the next day, L&M /that outlet specifically sent a person (technician) the next day to deliver it and be present when she tried and tested it (the person made a 23→+←23 kilometres trip to deliver a pair of spectacles. and those were pretty Uber days) .

my Maa was once coaxed by one more f the L&M staffers to at-least try a Mont Blanc frame once.
she slightly begrudgingly spent the 3500/4000 back then (in 2000s) on the lenses and frame but really found it worth it and still has it as spare.

even in pre on-line era, L&M always kept records.
now obviously they immediately know patient histories or preferences and purchases.

eye, unlike a heart, liver, kidney cannot simply be replaced as a whole
and is a pretty delicate yet important organ. (even invasive surgery of the eyes is a risk, as the effects are invariably irreversible)
no harm in splurging a bit on it, if it helps keeping it fit overall. one can compensate at other places.

the ones with “two sections” have a more common name :p spherocylindrical lenses, diopter lens or bifocals.

I got crizal prevecia for 2.5k

and frame brand (if both chosen separately)?

was once shown this frame i reaaally liked and it suited me well.
build and materials were top notch.
when enquired, the person gave some European name. though famous, reputed… i still cannot pronounce it right.
price for the frame alone was touching 2900 including taxes.

i think i had made some excuse about vehicle parked at improper place or some such excuse to get away.
on-line for proper daily use specs hasn’t been a success for me.

Varilux , Crizal are both Essilor smile

but somehow i just cannot properly maintain anti reflective ones sad
