Bought BIS Hallmarked Gold Coins from Amazon. One is underweight.
Pls suggest how to proceed.

I ordered 4 units (1gm each) of this: http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B017...7S
Reason of ordering this particular brand: None except these was offering buyback. And so I ordered this one. And these were BIS hallmarked, so i’d have no issues… thats what I thought.

Today I have received these and the seller has sent an invoice along with it… the invoice mentions these as ‘lockets’ instead of coins and mentions the weight of all 4 coins as follows:

One of the coins is underweight by 2.3% !!
Can anything be done in this regard? How much of +/- is permissible in case of such items?

many coin sellers mention the tolerance as + or – 2%.
and how did you exactly weigh this? using a pocket scale?
better go to a jeweller and get it weighed in that glass covered scale where there is no air pressure.
if the tolerance is mentioned in listing, fine… otherwise, you can always request for compensation.

and whats the deal here? you got some price discount or CB or anything else?

I didn’t weigh them myself. These weights are mentioned in the invoice which seller sent me. And i bought these as there was 10% cashback on SBI cards.

oh ok… so u r referring to the .977 coin here….
better get it weighed locally and then proceed.
i checked listing and nothing mentioned about tolerance.
Even the cumulative weight does not match to the ordered weight (4g)………so either they refund or compensate.

Contact Amazon from the registered account. So that they would be able to contact the seller regarding the invoice.

The Minimum total weight should be 1 gram for sure. (0.998 is permissible though)

And moreover you have the option of returning the product for full refund

or you can Contact the seller directly through this link https://www.amazon.in/ap/signin?openid.pape.max...

Have never bought gold online/offline. So, no idea about the particulars of weight and mark. @dharmanath481 is the right man to get an advice from in this case. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

I brought many coins online in various offer like 1gm 1700 from EBay all that coin purchased by bullion. RSBL majorly. It’s came with laminated packet and hallmark certification with valid tax bill. Weight and everything is OK no issue at all. If you are buying coins sell by jeweller with customized design (god image or shop name) then its Risky. Don’t go for that.
For your case I will suggest to contact Amazon and inform to refund money. Drop them email also so they cann’t reject by saying you have not contacted us.

Dear Customer,

Due to fluctuation in Air pressure all types of jewelleries differ by 20-30 mg and as these coins are machine made there is a slight difference and to maintain clarity with our customers we have mentioned the exact weight we get unlike other brands who do not share these differences and keep the customers in dark.

Hoping for your cooperation.

My father once said " mehanga roye ek baar ; sasta roye baar baar " https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif

Anyways all brands mention a tolerance of +/- [ it is the latter one most of the times] of 5% usually [ rsbl / om / pn gandgil etc etc ]

Do you know what a dharam kaataa is ? Get it weighed there as well.
You should have brought only from trusted sellers on ebay only

you can always raise a dispute with amazon and ask for refund.
personally I am not willing to buy physical gold online. I would not buy physical gold for investment also. there are major hassles at the time of resale and also risks of keeping them safe. I only buy gold ETF through demat account.
