Bye Bye FPD & Changing the way we earn Dimes !! - Suggestions needed

Having been here for nearly a year, I think the FPD system is broken. Dimes are a by-product of a robust deals systems. Many times, super-intelligent dimers post one master deal thread (let’s say Patym) and then post individual deals also in order to earn dimes and FPD. The excuse given is – for better visibility. Repost need to be stamped down.

Keeping aside the commercial interest, I would suggest that there should be different types of FPD, each earning a different level of dimes. No dimes should be given just for posting deals. If at all dimes have to be given for posting deals, it should be only after a minimum threshold of votes or hotness is reached.

One more suggestion is to allow referrals, maybe in a separate forum. Any stupid app, which gives even 1-2 Rs. free, becomes a FPD and the whole thread is full of PM me. The timeline view in the app is completely ruined. Allowing open referral will reduce the spam in the group. Instead of PM, PM game, it will happen openly and the deal poster will at least earn something from that.

Sorry to be rude. But, I have to tell you this. You guys not looking about the usefulness of the deal posted. Just see the percentage off etc.

There are many guys including me who share rarely and not for dimes.

We may not be having knowledge to post images, price comparison etc.

Promote those deals and don’t give dimes. Desidime once was sharing and caring. Now many seeing it a platform to earn money.

Last time when I posted an lg oven which I got for 11950, people were comparing to paytm with Cash back better etc.

For a family man, – instant reduction, immediate delivery, hassle free return etc are looked.
I brought that and I found it cheap and hence posted. All deal posted by me are brought too.

Please think of the usefulness than having only recharge 10rs back on 1000rs etc.

@rajeshkumarpv, every opinion matters. I think the look out is more towards quality deals and bringing them up and sharing more with such dimers. This will have nothing to do with decoration one put up in deals. It will be more what actual deal is. Is it good to fit in “hot deal section” will it stand up to its name? as such question should be answered. And yes Dimers know it all Hence they have more power to make/break a deal.

Not sure which deal you are talking about but yes everyone will look at a deal with different objective. I may want it immediately i can shell out 2k extra, someone might be fine even after 2 weeks even with 500 more savings to it. So everyone will have different opening.

Was talking lg microwave 28l which was available for 11948/- croma was selling for 18000. Amazon around 15500.

Only time I asked to redeem dime is to give for charity or so. Karma was what I was looking for .

Anyways, thanks for the reply. Yes, there are people who takes the risk of delivery, wait endlessly for sake of 100rs (even while buying 20000 rs product). Btw, even with paytm cashback, flipkart price was better. The guy’s reply confused many and hence no one tried.

However, a moe complete statement may read more like: “Users also matter to a website, apart from contributors…(even if/) though their relative importance is (far) less”!!

From Day one, Being Savings-obsessive people we are, We always wanted to highlight the very best deals on our Home Page of DesiDime. We use to manually select deals as FPD and highlight them on our home page. Idea was simple, we need to showcase the best deals regardless of the user who has posted it or the merchant. The deal should help people save money!

With community growing, Selection of FPD started to become more and more difficult. Some deals would run out of stock very soon, Some deals we could not promote as FPD as earlier we might not have promoted similar ones. We slowly started to create rules for FPD which kept growing every month… We started getting tags for making deals FPD… which was not the original idea… Some deals, the discussion was more about FPD rather than the deal itself.

We also introduced Hotness last year to portray the hotness of the deal(whatever the community feels about the Deal) and have been constantly working on its algorithm. Starting from September, We (Select Admins, Moderators, Users with deal promotion power) would not be promoting deals as FPD anymore. With scale, we feel that Community is mature enough to vote up good deals.. and most of the Home page deals will be powered by what community feels with certain Editorial content management.

We would still be involved in highlighting certain deals (like bumping upcoming deals which went live, showcasing certain deals which we feel community might have missed etc, removing deals which might be illegal or very user specific, removing deals which are intentionally bumped by users etc..) but our action will not result in a user getting FPD etc. Our objective is to make process more democratic while still keeping some editorial control of home page. Most of the deals on home page will be shown based on users reaction to the deals. So its what about what community/Dimers at large feels about the deal..

Users statistics like FPD count will be replaced with better metrics like Average Temperature, HOT Deals (Deals with more than 300 Degree hotness in x number of days) which would still justify and highlight the Best Deal Posters. Obviously, Number of Historical FPD will be still shown on user profile page.

As shared earlier, even Dimes reward will now be based on reaction of community to the deal which will allow any user posting a very very good deal to get upto 100 Dimes while very cold deals can even get 0 Dimes.

And yes, We will also be launching a Revived Gift portal later end of this year where Dimers can automatically convert their Dimes into Gift Cards of their choice.. So no more filling up forms etc

We would love to hear what Dimers think! We are super-excited to give more power to community… as we have always believed that “Community is everything…”

This is a great idea.. Only problem that could be faced is cartels.. Some people combine together to add hotness to each others thread.. I guess as more users participate this impact should be nullified
