Who should book this checkup?
The new Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) test can be done only on the recommendation of a qualified physician. As per the current testing guidelines, anyone who shows symptoms of COVID-19 such as high fever, cough, shortness of breath, respiratory illness and breathing difficulties, must first consult their General Physician. If the doctor has recommended getting tested for 2019-novel Coronavirus (2019-n-Cov), then such individuals can book this test.

news they are playing trumpet that kit will cost 1200-1300, make in india, blah blah
giving people more reasons not to get tested with 4.5k tag
1.2 to 1.5k would be the procurement cost of the kit even if they take these…these labs have other expenses to deal with so cost would always be higher

@amritreymatt683 it shows cost of 4500. I can get it done for free at nearest municipal clinic or hospital. Shameful money minting share.

I heard somewhere that ernakulam MLA has promised to send 6000 test kits for free
Good share, This price is decided by govt itself. samples collector will come in one time usable suit to collect sample that should also be accounted. 1300 is cost of only kit.
By the way if someone is not able to afford it then he/she can always visit govt hospital to get it done. This is for people who wanted to get it done due to there symptoms but were not able to get it from govt hospitals as they didn’t found their condition bad enough for testing.
Govt. is doing testing only if you have travel history or contact with infected person.
But as it is very much visible in current scenario that community spread has started a bit in Mumbai.
So I think it is better to test in private lab if you can afford and have consulted a doctor. 4500 is not more than life of yourself/family. It is also a service of nation as you are not testing in limited free sampling of govt hospitals.

I had some symptoms of typhoid fever. Local municipal team came to our house and did the test.

Wow very cheap 
The price is justified considering the risk the lab technician is taking to get the sample. Plus hazmat suits are not cheap!
Making it reasonably priced would strain labs with unnecessary tests. Another point to note is, govt labs are anyway offering the test for free for those that fit a certain criteria (foreign travel/ contact with a covid positive person, etc)
If US/UK/Japan/Iran can give at free and Bangladesh can provide it at 300, why is India charging 4500??
Already many ppl are not able to afford

Testing is the only way to find out if one’s having this China flu. Abbott Laboratories had unveiled the 5 minute testing device the other day & they are present in India for more than 100 years. This should be first procured asap at the lowest rate for mass requirement.

We really hope that no Dimer have to take this test ever. But we cannot delete deal shared by dimer as its genuine share and We cannot also ignore the fact that cases are unfortunately rising rapidly. Mumbai just now got 72 cases.

I dont know if thyrocare are earning or not But they are trying to get maximum benefit out of this tests as the government set a maximum cap of 4500 for each tests that include home pickup. VERIFIED myself via icmr.nic.in or mohfw.gov.in
I hope more affordable tests developed by Pune lab is widely available soon.
