Do we need to buy 3 layer masks for commuting in the public roads?
Can we just use a good quality cotton towel? Is it legal?

at-least in a few places (that i personally have seen the copy of the District Magistrate/ Collector’s notification) they haven’t restricted it to the 3-ply (proper) masks and use of stoles and bandana (duppata, गमछा) are allowed too.

Better once check with the local administration.
Although, for SARS-CoV-2 even your normal cotton towel is enough.

But effectively only the P-series masks (like P-95, P-100) can protect against acid/ chemical fumes and air borne pollutants.
Eg.: https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-Chemical-Odor-Valved-Respirator/?N=5002385+3294427695&preselect=3293786499&rt=rud
(in so far as i know, the N-95 aren’t designed for or capable of blocking chemtrails).

although, for industrial and real critical use, R-series (like R-95) is used.
But they are too costly for retail use, nor needed on a daily basis.

If masks work, why do businesses need to be closed?
And if they don’t work, why are we being forced to wear them?

If memory works and people are disciplined, then why do we need “stop loss” and “circuit breakers”

and if they too do not work, then why stock exchanges still have circuit breakers?

If people reporr everything fair and square, then why are auditors required?

and if, despite auditors.. Enron, Lehman Brothers, Satyam Computers/ Maytas Reality, WeWork happens and Goldman Sachs almost happens..
.. then why at all do we still have the “auditor” function/ profession?

just two examples closer to your domain expertise, in tge hope that they help you get the broader picture.

People are dumping these surgical masks on roads now
Discarded medical waste can cause serious health hazards to some confused
Dunno how many are doing this but recently Mysore administration requested people to dump medical waste in a separate trash bag and not the regular wet/dry one

I still get a lump in my throat recollecting how a govt. hosp. pathlab technician once bragged to us that they do not always wear protective gloves at work (handling vials and samples)
as also, often see biomedical waste (not just diapers, but used/ discarded dressing et al. too) get casually tossed with general garbage at clinics and hospitals sad

by the way: how is your health/fitness now? (unless i am mistaken, you drove 400km inter-state… to consult your damily doctor for something)

correct pensive
everyone is doing anything they want
nobody really knows what to do or what not to do
so everything from Garlic, Cow Urine to Hydroxychloroquine are being floated.
But
neither adminstrations nor agencies like police are following similar procedures or strictness.
even lawmakers themselves pensive becoming lawbreakers and not maintaining simple rules.

It is basically for your own safety. So you can mask, dupatta or anything just to cover your mouth to protect yourself from any infection or virus.

agree with what you said.. but these barriers are only good for stopping the small droplets comibg from a cough or sneeze.
Actual viruses are even smaller than bacteria wink and thus can technically easily pass through these
