Experience with Gearbest and Bangalore customs

Guys,

Just sharing my experience for a Mobile Order from Gearbest.

I ordered Ulefone Power 3 from Gearbest on 1st Jan… Price shown was USD 219.99, however credit card was charged 14700+291 (FCY charges)… making the Total 15k.

It was marked as gift and Gearbest had affixed invoice for USD120 (I never asked them to fake the price). Anyways it was caught by Customs and I received a post to contact Customs office with required documents…

I downloaded the invoice from Gearbest which showed USD120 and went to Customs office… As I had presumed, they didn’t accept that invoice and asked for account statement and Order screenshot… Again I went to office with modified order screenshot and same invoice so that both pics show same amount. Luckily this time they accepted this and told me the items will be released in 2-3 days.

I received the mobile after 3 days and had to pay Postman INR 6000 to get the order… there was a customs bill of Rs. 6000 which went something like as below..

Item cost : 8000
Shiping (1/4 of Item cost): 2000
total assessed item cost : 10000

Customs Duty : 4100
Penalty : 1600
Handling charges : 300

On top of this the Mobile box was opened by customs and all items were carelessly packed using a rope..

So Finally I got the mobile in Hand on 18th Feb which costed me 21k… Anyways I was still happy as mobile config was good for the price paid. However it still doesn’t end here…

Before buying I checked with gearbest support and I was told It supports Volte and work flawless in India with Jio Volte. Some of Youtube videos also confirmed that… However it didn’t.. sad

Now I’m stuck with a 21k mobile which shows Indian 4G sims (AIRTEL) as 3G and JIO Volte is not supported…

The only relief is Jio 4G works flawless and I might make it work with Jio4GVoice app… the current version of that App didn’t work although..

You got lucky
If they charged customs for 15k, you would’ve paid 7.5k + 2.8k penalty + 300 handling charges https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

and btw most of the phones (Chinese OEM) lack 2300mhz band. You need Band 40 for VoLTE (India) . Only few brands like Xiaomi, elephone , meizu have band 40 support

Except for the battery, Redmi Note 5 Pro would hve given the same specifications at 17k, without this hassle. surprised

In my opinion in 21k it feels costly due Redmi Note 5 Pro which would have costed u cheaper.
btw iam amazed that for a product worth 8000 rs they are charging 4100 customs duty https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_eek.gif and 1600 extra as penalty …
do they provide proper bill for custom duty , i mean shocked how much our governments loots us …
if i would have ordered a laptop of MI worth 50k from China then it would cost me 50k + 25K = 75k https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_eek.gif
why is customs so high in India ….
what about sites like Flipkart and amazon when they import products from China like mobile phones .. so they provide customs per piece ..? in that case redmi 5a which Fk sells at 5k would be costing around 2k-2.5k to fk https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif
btw iam still amazed at custom charges https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif seems like custom department is keeping this money in their pockets …

If you are running a company with proper trading import/export license, it will be cheaper, they don’t charge custom duty like this.

For individual importing goods from another country has to be bear all this charges.

You would have checked priority line. They will send it through GATI and you don’t have to go through this hassle.

I stopped buying from China after all my small parcels disappeared. Luckily got refund but 4 months wasted.

Rather its getting cheaper to buy the same from FK and AZ.

Latest ones were pvc vinnear wallpaper sticker which on AE was ₹550 and got it from FK for ₹221.

Need to buy an action cam but yes the price difference is there but the customs dept. ke ache din are worrying.

Yes, you’ve to pay customs. But I didn’t Recommend to buy from grearbest unless you’re getting a really good deal.

For 15k there’re good phones available online in India buy from here.

@mehtawork
If there’s Priority Line or Direct India Shipping Method available I would recommend to go for them.

The product will be delivered by GATI Courier they didn’t charge any custom duty.

The DHl is very strict to custom duty. You’ll end up paying more.

Your can share product link with me. So I can help you better.

Ordered car multimedia player via AE for ₹2600 approximately after discounts. Should I be worried about custom charges? Will I have to pay anything more?
