Guys I paid 1500rs fee online for passport, but when I went to psk. I was told I had to buy passport cover which is 500rs, and it’s mandatory. Is it really so?
Because last time which is probably like 7 years ago, I didn’t pay anything, just the fee. This is really new for me , I thought there is no corruption in govt offices anymorePs: i looked up on YouTube n quora seems like this has been going on across the country

It is not mandatory. I did not buy it.
It is optional as already told by others . I heard In Some countries they thow those passport cover at airport checking .
Optional. Do ask his name and name of his supervisor and complain against them.
Say you already have one.
Or borrow someone else and show them
I did not even know such cases were being sold at passport seva kendra. I just paid online and no one even bothered to tell me about this case at psk.
Passport online application pay only Rs 1500/- for normal passport with min pages. No need to subscribe to their SMS, or any other commercial items like cover etc. Politely refuse them.
I think it’s the “fear” of passport application getting rejected makes people say YES to all this stupidity.
I don’t understand why does the passport authority entertain such pimping within their premises.
& I don’t understand, why people think buying cover will help them get passport or Not buying it will get it rejected..
I refused to pay anything for police verification as well.. still no problem occurred..

Yes they did force my mom when she went to renew her passport..
But I gave her instructions before hand itself so everything went fine
