Can someone suggest me some good, reliable and favorable rates furniture shop in Bangalore, with personal experience ?
Things to buy: Center table, Pooja ghar, Computer table, Book shelf, living room decorative items.
Please excuse : Housefull, Shivaji nagar (personal good experience with any particular shop then suggest.)
Thanks
We bought wrought iron furniture when we were in Bangalore. Bought it from a shop in Shivajinagar. Can’t remember the name of the shop. But most of them sell the same kind of stuff.
I remember we visited most of the shops there. Also remember was that we found the better shops along Central Street rather than on Infantry Road. Bargain like crazy and check everything. Also don’t be surprised if a guy working in one shop directs you to a competitor’s shop where you can get it cheaper (happened to us)
The furniture was good. Lasted (including the upholstery) for 6 years without a problem. We sold it for slightly more than half the cost when we moved back to Goa. A friend told us we could actually have got much more for the furniture because it was in good condition but we didn’t have all that much time to search for people willing to buy it at a higher price
If I remember correctly we got a 3 + 2 sofa set with upholstery, a glass topped dining table with 4 cushioned chairs & a queen size bed - all 3 items in wrought iron for about 14K or so. This was about 8 years ago so it may not be of much use to you now
sbdtrial in dost n dimes.. That too helping with a query! Can’t believe my eyes.
Not an exact answer but, There are a lot of furniture shops on outer Ring road near RamMurthy nagar, around Easyday supermarket. I was searching for furniture there yesterday evening. A few are good: RoyalOak, Damro..etc Thing is you have a huge choice if you are in the area.
I want to order some furniture from Pepperfry.com as they have some offers atm. But they have so much bad reviews on the net, i’m hesitating to place any orders with them.
@ aka_iitd : was your order delivered on time? where does it come from?
thanks for the responses guys. I stay near Indira nagar and daily travel to Sarjapur road, I had seen that Fab furnish shop on ORR but I was not sure if it is the same online fab-furnish.com. But I’m little apprehensive about buying furniture online becoz till the end you don’t know what color, size and material you getting and if there is any issue with quality or broken furniture then return will be too much hassle. So preferred to buy offline.
So Fab-Furnish offer same discount in offline store, any idea ?
Shivaji nagar is risky, if you don’t have much knowledge on furniture and types of wood. Few months back when I went there to buy sofa. I saw same design sofa in most of the shops which different prices ranging from 13k to 25k and I got totally confused.
Housefull sells cheap material furniture, I doubt they last 1 year or 2.
Had been Royal Oak, Damro in Marthahalli but they didn’t had much stock,choices for above items.
I will checkout shops in BTM and RamMurthy nagar this weekend. thanks for suggesting.
even i would like to know about buying furniture from pepperfry. is it good and reliable. how soon do they deliver.

@Viveka
What’s so shocking about it?
If I have the time & if I think my answer may help a bit, I post it.
@breadcrumb
Something that might help you. We were thinking of buying some stuff from Pepperfry so we had a discussion at home recently. My father-in-law designs interiors so he was advising us.
The first thing to do is to decide how long you want the stuff to last and how much you’re willing to spend.
If you’re in a specific location for a short time and are not too bothered about taking the stuff with you when you move, then cane is a cheap option. Won’t last long though
Wrought iron is also a relatively cheap option. Will last for quite some time. Important point to check is whether the underlying metal has rusted. Look for spots where the powdercoating has flaked off and see the condition of the metal underneath
Next up is wood and its derivatives.
The cheapest is MDF and other fibreboard/particleboard based options. MDF is not durable. If it gets wet it will get spoilt. If you live in a dampish area it will get spoilt. That’s guaranteed. MDF also doesn’t like too many moves. You shift it too many times, it will get spoilt
Next is plywood. Much better than MDF but costlier
Then you come to the real wood options. The most common options are mangowood, sheesham/rosewood & teak
If you want it to last for your kids avoid mangowood. Mango wood is the cheapest of the 3. It will last longer than artificial wood but not as long as the other two
The best would be either sheesham or teak. We’ve got furniture from our grandparents – It’s either sheesham or teak. It’s still in very good condition. That too in a place where I stay where the humidity is high, the sea is not very far away and there are woodborers and termites too. All that this furniture has required is applications of varnish every few years. Touchwood, it’ll be around for my grandkids as well
However, if the shopowner lies to you about what wood is used, there isn’t much you can do; unless you have some knowledgeable friend who can distinguish between different types of wood
HTH
EDIT: If you’re not averse to buying used furniture, check out the shops that sell restored real wood furniture. Sometimes you get really good stuff there. There used to be one near Shivajinagar bus-stand, just outside the bus-stand; remember visiting it; they had some nice stuff but it was out of our budget then and far too heavy for us to think of buying it

A small correction: I tease everyone, not just girls.
Example: Read the above statement.
BTW, Welcome back!

Does anyone have experience with buying furniture from Pepperfry ?
@breadcrumb: did they deliver your stuff? How was it?
Just today I got a call from Pepperfry delivery guys to deliver the coffee table but as nobody is at home, so I asked him to deliver it tomorrow.
And tomorrow also I’m working , so won’t be able to post the review on table until evening.
Thanks breadcrumb, please let us know what happens.
So these guys took about 23days to deliver your item, so there are delivery issues with them.:-{

While placing the order, they had mentioned on the site that the item will on particular date.
Looks like they make furniture on order basis… + shipping time from jaipur to Bangalore via mumbai hub.
please review the product once you get it
So finally, today I have received the Cayenne Slatted Coffee Table from pepperfry. Even though, they had mentioned the shipping date as 4th Jan at the time of placing the order but they delivered it a week before which is good.
Now regarding the table, not sure what should I say. The quality of the wood (sheesham wood) looks ok and durable but the finishing is awful and not at all matching as shown in their website. Moreover there is a slight dent at one side of the table.
I had ordered this table to use as a center table in living room but the size of table is quite big (Dimensions: Height – 16 inches, Width – 31 inches, Depth – 31 inches ) which I had not anticipated. Actually it was my mistake that I had not given much consideration on the width and length of table but still I can live with that. Beside using that table as just a center table, now we can use it for ironing cum study cum mini dinning for 4 people
Even though I’m not fully satisfied with it but decided to keep it.
one advice for those who are interested to order furniture online, please carefully read the dimensions of the product and measure it with tape at ur end to avoid unwanted surprises.
If you can take a few snap & upload here.

also whats the difference between commercial ply and engineered wood
You can try BTM area where you find couple of shops
Marthalli area where Hometown/houseful/Damro is there
If OK shop online from Pepperfry.com. I had a very good experience with them. I buyed dinning table/center table/Sette/small almirah and all are good
Try fabfurnish in bellandur (here I stay ). They have online shop also
