Future in India could be in doubt without govt relief: Vodafone
British telecom giant Vodafone on Tuesday said its future in India could be in doubt if it is forced to pay thousands of crores in statutory dues following the Supreme Court ruling.
Having made no provision for dues that have been locked up in legal dispute for more than a decade, Vodafone chief executive Nick Read said the government needs to ease off on payment demands to ensure a future for group’s India joint venture, Vodafone-Idea Ltd.
“Financially there’s been a heavy burden through unsupportive regulation, excessive taxes and on top of that we got the negative Supreme Court decision,” he said on a call with reporters after first-half results.
India, he said, had been “a very challenging situation for a long time”.
“It’s a very critical situation,” he said when asked if it made sense for Vodafone to remain in India without any relief package. “The government has stated its desire not to end up with a monopoly.”

In all this one thing is sure, the future of these type of people is secured. Chit bhi meri pat bhi meri sikka mere baap ka.
They are taking the money from Vodafone but where would that money go? So stop misleading, as usual that’s what your people, this govt. does the best.
They would go to any length to remove Vodafone, or any competition to Jio. It’s so transparent, so obvious, so textbook. Meh.
I was going out to have my no. ported back to Voda today but saw this news on mint and held back. I hope everything is sorted within a month. Otherwise needless to say it’s a terrible news, from any perspective you look at it.

doing so will make it leave India (British go away aur kitna lootoge?) But also idea along with it(The only operator with decent speeds beside bsnl in my area and many more) and i don’t want that. Jio will surely hit monopoly as Airtel won’t have money to pay for next spectrum auction and bsnl to hehi jeb me🤣🤣

I believe voda wont go away from India, (its users are large across all parts of the nation) they know all cunning procedures to tackle this situation to stay here and earn more. We can expect higher call/data/sms charges from them in upcoming days to tackle this situation.
Other network also may comeup with 6p/min scheme in upcoming days followed by Jio.
voda can’t hike tariff due to competitive market. If they do, everyone will start porting in jio/airtel

Trust me all this hue n cry is because Govt is nearing auctioning spectrum and Vodafone is showing itself bankrupt or out of funds only to delay it. Parent company took this step and sent GoI letter as there is a false motive behind. Nobody asked Vodafone to merge with Idea and then make good network crap. They have to give back excess spectrum in 14 circles and it only created a mess for their customer base.Both Idea and Vodafone wanted to exit but when they are finding it hard blaming Govt and higher taxes. The taxes were too high in past as compared to today. They are failing to manage their network which goes down every other day. They misread the data market and took it as a joke and now joke is on them.
The body language of Kumar Mangalam Birla is always low since merger. Idea was a voice only king and made humongous profits over time. If you can’t change yourself with market conditions you are doomed. The real fighter in this game is Airtel who never gives up no matter what. Jio has investor money to use. Investors not helping Vodea as they(telco) themselves are clueless. When it was 2G/3G both Voda and Idea were leasing Internet bandwidth from other companies and never really got into game like Airtel, BSNL and later Jio. Now they blame taxation.
When Voda entered market they though Indians are illiterate enough to use technologies and they will easily milk us till 2030 as we won’t require data. Even now they have licenses till 2035 and it is 2019 only. 16 years left but they want to earn big as quickly as possible and this is the problem they are losing out. They lacking long term vision. If compared to per customer cost Spectrum in India is too cheap when 20 years are taken into account and all they do is cry and cry. Actually quick money had become their habit in past and they don’t know how to deal when competition rises. All they did in past is kept price as per their own wish and now they don’t know how to take this situation and move ahead. 2 number ka ya muft ka maal khaane ki aadat pad jaye toh mehnat maar ke khana mushkil lagta hai aur aalsi log Govt ko blame kartey hai ki opportunity nahi hai.

After listening to this STel, Telenor, Videocon Telecom, Etisalat DB, Docomo, Aircel, RCOM etc. be like- What were we?
Everyone came with a motive of quick and large sum of money in profits but later paid their own sweet price. Telecom sinked many parents companies too like in case of Videocon which is a dead rubber now.
As far as this photo is concerned, the man in the picture is more hated than liked. So his photo has dent Jio over time. If people think Modi promoting Jio then they should make Jio poor by not using its services. I use BSNL. The 1699 plan now with 455 days. 
Edit: If Jio is getting helped then why did Patanjali lose out? I mean there were dimers in past who were directly linking Patanjali with current Govt and told that Patanjali will create monopoly. Many were bringing in religious angles. All are wiped out now. No more Ramdev talks as Patanjali have been competed and taken well care off by FMCG companies. But telecom companies and many dimers will find Modi-Govt link in Jio success. With time they will shut their mouth as they did in case of Ramdev. Hum kahe toh bak bak saala, tum kaho toh jingalala.

Giving relief to any of those thieves is tantamount to giving out Bharatha Ratnas to incompetent people like what used to happen before.
Vodafone UK itself is facing financial hard times and trying to cut down on looses and exit bleeding projects. They have already written off the Indian JV. AV Birla shifted out of India decades back and most of his ventures were outside India. KM Birla is following his father’s footsteps and works mostly out of India. So once Vodafone UK exits, he would not longer be interested to continue and expected to seek merger with Airtel.
BSNL is already almost dead.
So we will be left with a duopoly where the two player will dictate the market.

When they were in profit, they use their expert CA for to find out the loop holes for not to pay taxes. When they are in loss they need govt support for relief package.
Govt also listen only corporate not the common people.
Because common man homes runs on corporate money.
If Vodafone Idea falls, then it will have a huge cascading effect on the whole economy and investor sentiment. This is not any other failure, thousands of people will lose their jobs. In these times of sustained slowdown, we can’t risk stagnation.
