Spend sometime with her by talking (in-person and not by phone call) about her past funfilled life moments instead of spending money.. this is what all parents requires now especially mothers.
Other than that you can gift her a silk saree (every women loves it) and a favorite food cooked by you (if possible) or in some retro restaurant.

Been there and done that , from my experience
1. Don’t assume what she might like, her taste/opinion changes just like yours
2. Buying home appliance is the most selfish thing a man can do, (don’t do that)
3. gifts will never replace your love, and you being there for her. ( spending whole day in office and gifting something @ night , definitely not okay)
4. If you are going to buy gold / saree / diamond then take her out on her birthday and buy the one she likes , ( her liking the gift is more important than you surprising her )
5. If you are too confused " gift her the money – believe me ( my go to gift these days) every time she needs money and spends this money she will think of you ( my mother has told this to me many times).
6. She has always been there for the family , so it is each one of your duty to be there for her at least on this day. (family time is a must)
7. And for god sake avoid any arguments and fight among your self ( when people are together it is easy to pickup fight)
8. Most important “don’t make her work on that day”
on a side note, anyone has an idea about dishwasher for Indian utensils?
I want to get it for my home as many times my mom has to wash utensils and i think that getting a dishwasher would be better, but I’m not sure what would it be good for Indian food utensils which has half-burnt oil all around and other things, not just dry stuff.
any thoughts from people already using it or who know about it would be welcome, would prefer something which doesn’t cost too much

Give her 10k cash (not Amazon gift card) in a gift box. That way she will have the surprise of having a gift box plus the cash she can use for whatever she likes. You can also include a Ferrero Rocher, 4 piece inside as an icing on the cake…
Bad idea to give cash as then she will save it for childrens….

Take her on an outing (not restaurant /hotel) so she can feel relaxed from daily routine ,
gift her the thing that she will use on herself and not in house or anything like that.
Outing + Cash in hand will be biggest gift i think as she can relax and spend as she want.
Time is a best gift in the world for our loved ones, so give your time and care for her, and take one good saree for her and and small Get to gather party at home. Mom told to all members this saree gifted my dear son, that is the happy moments to her. Telling to others my son is best and caring me, this sentence gives her happy.

Book her an appointment in a spa or something like that.
