It is imperative to check if your PAN is still active as the deadline to link Aadhaar with PAN ends on August 31.
Govt has deactivated over 11 lakh PANs. Is yours still valid?

To check if your PAN card is still valid, follow these simple steps -
> Go to the e-filing website.
https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-Fili...
> Click on ‘Know Your PAN’. You will find it on the left side of the page, under Services.
>After you click on it, it will direct you to a page where you will be required to fill in your details.
> After you have filled in the details, you will receive a one-time password (OTP) on your registered mobile number for verification.
>After you have keyed in the OTP, click on ‘Validate’
>If your PAN is still valid, it will show that it is ‘Active’
>If you have multiple PAN numbers under the same details, a pop-up will appear saying that, ‘There are multiple records for this query. Please provide additional information’ and you will be required to fill in more details. You will then be directed to a new page which will tell you the validity of your PAN.

Mine got deactivated. Apparently 2 PAN were issued at the initial stage in 2001. I received only the second one and have been filing return on that for last 15 years. Still their stupid software deactivated the one with returns and kept the one without even a single return. Found this out in May when I tried to check my 26AS. Had to personally visit the AO and submit a request, along with copy of last 3 returns, to get this rectified.
