taad maadi kendra.. aka house wine shops (also) make some lip-smacking non-veg fare (though in unhygienic conditions)

which cybertechie vouches for, worth taking the risk (to eat)

but considers it not at all worth jeopardizing the comfort of ladies (if any) in the group.

the seriously seriously farzi elements usually flock it
(although i think you are in Maharashtra, where it is sold just like any energy drink when it is still fresh (up to 6-7 hours) and before fermentation starts to make alcohol)

Hey!
i am from Kerala..

For travel within Kochi and Triruvanathapuram you can take Uber..
Airport To Munnar use Airport Prepaid taxi
Munnar To Alapuzha use KSRTC/Private Bus
Alapuzha to Airport take bus or train ( nearest railway station is Angamaly and Aluva… most of the train stops at Aluva )

You should add Athirapally (which is not far from Cochin Airport) and Kumarakom if you can..

and i really recommend you to visit Wayanad its such an awesome place!! (but its about 250+ KM from Kochi and nearest airport to Wayanad is Calicut.. So you can return from there)

Let me know if you need any help

Bro, there may not be many one stop taxi service provider to cover all the geographical areas you mentioned and even if there is one, they would charge you a lot since you would be paying for Driver Batta and lot of other charges on top of regular taxi fares. Kerala has the highest wages in the country and that reflects in Taxi fares as well. 7500 quoted looks like a decent price however it doesn’t seem to include the Driver batta and other charges.

I would suggest you to book cabs directly from Hotel/taxi stand at different locations you are staying instead of booking one taxi to cover all areas. Taxi fare across Kerala most of the times would be similar since rates are fixed by the government/union.

Hi guys! We are planning for a kerala tour next month;abt 8 ppl. may be abt 4-5 days. Will be reaching kochi by train and return from ern/tvc.

Ours is a budget tour so we r trying to minimise cost as much as we can. Planning to visit kochi, munnar, allepey, varkala, tvc, kovalam, kkumari. So is it better to take a bus for long distances and hire a cab locally for 8 hrs or just hire a single cab from kochi itself for 5 days?

And which places should we spend maximum time? Varkala is higly rated in tripadvisor is it really worth gng there or should we go directly to tvc? And Is kanyakumari worth a visit or should we spend extra day in tvc itslef?

Thanks in advance.

Bro,You are trying to cover far too many places in 5 days. Munnar alone needs at least 2 days. If backwaters is your thing, then Allepey can be included. You would need at least a day in Allepey. Choose any one beach from Varkala and Kovalam. My choice would be Varkala since it is cheaper, less crowded than Kovalam. BTW, my hometown is in Varkala, if you have any questions related to Varkala, do let me know. Yes, Kanyakumari is a good place to visit but keep in mind that you need at least 1-2 days for a Kanyakumari trip. Try to book your return tickets from TVM instead of Ernakulam.

Anyways, here is my itinerary for you.

Day 1: Local Kochi sight seeing. Leave for Munnar by a overnight bus or an early morning bus.
Day 2 & 3: Munnar and surrounding. Leave for Allepey on day 4 by early morning bus so that you reach Allepey by 10-11am.
Day 4: Allepey house boat cruise. You can spend your night at Allepey house boat.
Day 5: Varkala/ Kovalam: Choose one beach among these. Varkala is a kind of place where you spend relaxing sipping a cup of coffee/coconut water. If you love beaches, you would love spending more time in Varkala.

I would suggest you add a couple of days more into your itinerary. If you have 8 days in hand, you can add another day to cover Tekkady and you would also get to spend extra 2 days in Varkala & TVM.

Here are a few tips:

1) Hiring a local taxi for entire duration of trip will be convenient but it will burn a hole in your pocket. Since there are 8 people, you would need a bigger vehicle such as a 8 seater Tavera/ Sumo. Per day charges would be roughly 3k + driver batta. Taxi charges in Kerala are the highest in the country. You are looking at a figure of 20k for 5 days just for Taxi expenses. Even after paying that kind of money, you are still cramping 8 people in an MUV with luggage which will make the journey very uncomfortable. Instead of Taxi, take trains and buses. Kerala has excellent bus and train connectivity. For Munnar/Tekkady, you may need to depend on local KSRTC buses which are cheap.

2) You haven’t mentioned the date of travel. I’m assuming it is between APR-JUNE. Keep in mind that it get’s very hot & humid in Kerala during months of Apr-June . Please try to book hotels with working air conditioners. make sure you drink lots of water. For hotels, Look for deals on MMT, Gobibo. Hotels will be relatively cheap in Kerala compared to other big cities. Food expenses outside of touristy areas are very reasonable.

3) Food : Finding north Indian food is difficult in Kerala. Most of my friends who went to Kerala had complaints regarding non availability of North India food there. Kerala is known for excellent sea food. If you are particular about north Indian food, do check with hotels beforehand to find out if we serve north Indian food.

@bookface Coorg and Ooty gets very crowded during summer months. If you are looking for hillstations in South, why not look at Valparai or Munnar ? BTW, I did a Coorg trip with family couple of months back.
