hmmmm…. police station works 24*7 and are open on Sundays too .
Was in a similar situation sometime ago
Lost my phone because of my foolishness
I tried to block my number
Contacted Airtel and they blocked my number
Later i realised that incoming calls and texts cannot be blocked. I was surpised by this because a single otp is enough to login to most of the wallets
Been to Airtel headoffice and somehow convinced the executive over there to block incoming calls.
Luckily incoming texts were also blocked
Now-a-days some operators are asking FIR for reissue of sim card
Apart from that FIR is of no use, you will not be getting your phone from them. They wont even care to look after it unless you know someone in the cyber cell

SIM stops working altogether once blocked, not possible to receive even messages.
Reporting to police is advised to be on safer side in case your phone is misused for some illegal activity by the person who gets access to it.
Honesty they dont give a damn or intention to find your phone
U will only get a application which will written by u explaining how and where u lost the phone and they make a xerox of it and give it back to u and u probably being told that we will be lookin but they’re not
So just get back ur SIM ASAP

Nope it wont, at least for Airtel
You will be receiving incoming calls (not sure of sms) even though sim has been blocked

I had to really argue with airtel guys to get the incoming calls barred
Travelled 25kms for 2hrs to the Airtel Head office that day to get the incoming calls blocked

I was in a hurry back then
wasnt online all day
Called 198 and asked them to block my number, even they confirmed me that only outgoing calls will be blocked
then went to the nearest cc, they said like you have to go the main branch for that (may be because my sim belongs to another circle)
The only way to completely block that sim is to take a replacement sim which is not possible in my case

Natural to run short of ideas in such cases, but these days Twitter support of most of the companies/banks is most helpful.
