So I went to bank to deposit some left over cash.out of 64-65 notes of 500, one was found to be fake.the note was counterfeited and stamped immediately and taken from me.I tried to justify that someone gave it to me and I must take it back in order to get my money back from him.but bank didn’t listen and make me fill a form for counterfeit note.and I just lost my 500 INR in a blink of eye.
Any suggestion / further steps I need to take?
Don’t want Govt to come behind me for one fake note..also, if there’s a way I can get my money back that would be swell.

The bank must have given you Rs. 500 credit for that though!

No. They would give you a receipt with the number and destroy it immediately in front of you, at least that’s the procedure I have seen in SBI. No amount of begging will help you get back the notes.

They won’t come for any investigation because it is just a single note and that can happen to anyone. Forget your money as you can never get it back from the bank. All you can do is to show the receipt to the person you got it from and get your money.

No credit, lost the money right there.
The person will never accpet the receipt fot the fake note as nobody remembers the serial number of notes.

LOL! Have you ever received any credit against fake notes? https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

“No credit to customer’s account is to be given for counterfeit notes, if any, detected in the tender received over the counter or at the back-office / currency chest.”

Read para 2, point 1 in the same link
“appropriate credit passed on to the account or value in exchange given.”

Para 2 Detection of counterfeit notes
Banknotes tendered over the counter / received directly at the back office / currency chest through bulk tenders should be examined for authenticity through machines.
No credit to customer’s account is to be given for counterfeit notes, if any, detected in the tender received over the counter or at the back-office / currency chest.

No such sentence (quoted by you) in the entire link.
It clearly states in para 2 :- “No credit to customer’s account is to be given for counterfeit notes”.
