The Madhya Pradesh unit of income tax department was shocked to witness a shopping spree of a woman.
The income tax department has sent a notice to a senior IAS officer’s wife over her online shopping spree worth Rs 10 lakh.
According to reports, officials claim that she had ordered products worth Rs 10 lakh in a small period of time, while those close to the IAS officer say that his wife suffers from compulsive buying disorder – a psycholo-gical disorder characterized by an obsession with shopping that causes adverse consequences.
Online shoppers tend to leave a digital trail that is available to income tax officials, who use a smart software to map an individual’s spending, said officials. The spending data can be matched with taxes paid and evaders can be caught.
The IAS officer’s wife files her income tax separately and she has not filed her reply yet.

It is their business to ask the source of the money
You declare income of few lakhs and spend 10 lakhs in a short period raises eyebrows being a wife of an officer.
It might be Ticket Compliments Gift Card.

You r right but
She might have taken a loan or saving…Rs10 lacs for an IAS officer’s wife is reasonable amount, in fact with 2-3 CCs you get that much purchasing power.

That’s the reason they have sent notice seeking an explanation. They have not jailed her already

Lol.
What kind of software are the talking about?
I guess, it boils down to the mobile number you use for online shopping and the number Income Tax dept has.

They don’t use mobile number to track purchases. They are doing it through financial instruments (bank accounts/cards) being used to make the purchases. They don’t tap into the e-tailers system to track the purchases which would overwhelm their system and neither do they have such an infrastructure.

Bullcrap… she used to pay via bank accounts?

Now Indian Tax and Financial Systems are very Strong!
They are investing Crores of rupees to Track people!Almost all purchases above one lakh being traced and tracked randomly!
And Yes you can’t Fight Govt..CBI, SEBI and all…
Esp if you are a common citizen all the rules are applicable, so be extra careful on high end purchases.

When people try to deposit 45k-49k in their accounts so that they don’t have to mention their PAN that info is automatically relayed to RBI. That’s how they track accounts.
Suppose If I have 50,000 in my savings account and I rotate this money by loading into any wallet then transferring it to bank account from wallet, I repeat it many times should I wait notice of IT DEPT?
You should be ready. So keep proper accounting and transaction trail. Cashbacks are treated as reduction in expenditure as of now and so not treated as income. In future, even that may change.
Is It For Overall Purchase Or Just One Single Purchase With The Huge Amount Can Get IT Dept. Alert ??
