👏An amazing story on Marvan Attapattu Srilankan Cricketer👍 & Chartered Accountant of Sri Lanka. MUST READ By Those want to succeed and even those who are succeesful.

It’s a story that Harsha Bhogle, India’s most loved cricket commentator, loves to tell, over and over again.

Making his debut in Test cricket for Sri Lanka, Marvan scored a duck in his first innings. And again, in his second innings.
They dropped him. So he went back to the nets for more practice. More first-class cricket. More runs. Waiting for that elusive call.

And after twenty-one months, he got a second chance.
This time, he tried harder. His scores: 0 in the first innings, 1 in the second Dropped again, he went back to the grind. And scored tonnes of runs in first-class cricket. Runs that seemed inadequate to erase the painful memories of the Test failures.

Well, seventeen months later, opportunity knocked yet again. Marvan got to bat in both innings of the Test. His scores: 0 and 0. Phew!

Back to the grind. Would the selectors ever give him another chance? They said he lacked big-match temperament.

His technique wasn’t good enough at the highest level. Undaunted, Marvan kept trying.

Three years later, he got another chance. This time, he made runs. He came good. And in an illustrious career thereafter, Marvan went on to score over 5000 runs for Sri Lanka. That included sixteen centuries and six double hundreds. And he went on to captain his country. All this despite taking over six years to score his second run in Test cricket. Wow ! What a guy!

How many of us can handle failure as well as he did ? Six years of trying, and failing. He must have been tempted to pursue another career. Change his sport perhaps. Play county cricket. Or, oh well, just give up. But he didn’t. And that made the difference.

The next time you are staring at possible failure or rejection, think of Marvan.

And remember this: If you don’t give up, if you believe in yourself, if you stay the course, the run will eventually come. What more you could even become captain some day.

One more thing, Marvan Attapattu is a qualified Srilankan Chartered Accountant.😊

But just one thing, it was possible for him bcoz Sri Lanka cricket board gave him the chance again nd again, keeping faith in him(may be after seeing his performance in domestic) .
In many people’s lyf this chance does not come,u get one chance,if u perform u r hero or else try something else!! That’s the reason many people are forced to think something else https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif

1. He is qualified enough to get a good paying job and not pursue his dream
2. He could have easily thought that his golden chance is now gone . Infact he lost his silver and bronze ones too https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif .
3. Its not as if the SL selectors kept faith in him – Its not as if the other chances came out of luck – I am sure he had to work harder than the previous time for the selectors to even consider.
Prime example of keeping faith is Rohit Sharma https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Thinking any of this he could have thought what you say “u get one chance,if u perform u r hero or else try something else” and left it midway

#BoardingTrainMumbai
Very Interesting incident…
This can happen only in Mumbai, no where else.
ONLY local train passengers in Mumbai will know how helpful commuters try to be.

Last week, a hapless victim fell prey to the over enthusiastic Mumbai’s local train commuters.

Our hero, a man from Pune, wanted to go to Matunga, but as misfortune and trains would have it, he boarded a fast train not halting at his destination. He panicked on realizing his mistake but by then the local had already started moving.

On seeing his plight, a sympathetic co-passenger decided to come to his rescue. It seemed that he had been commuting by that particular train (6:03 pm Kasara Fast) for the past 6 years and had noticed that the train always slowed down just before Matunga station and crawled at a snail’s pace while passing through it. He told the man to jump out of the running train as it slowed down and that with a little bit of fleet-footedness, he would make it safely on terra firma. However, knowing the man’s inexperience, he added some words of caution: “Keep running the moment you jump or you’ll fall. Just keep running.”
He stressed the word “running” lest the man not know the laws of motion.

The train did slow down just before Matunga station and at the prompting of his mentor, our hero jumped out of the train and started running as if all hell had broken loose. What he didn’t realise, of course, was that he was running parallel to the train instead of running away from it.

Meanwhile, the train slowed down further, and the man was running faster than the train. In the process, he reached the door of the next compartment and the footboard commuters there pulled him in thinking he was trying to board the train! To his agony, train picked up speed and sped past Matunga and his new co-passengers started to congratulate him on how lucky he had been, until he told them that they had actually undone what he had done with great difficulty.

Those standing at the door of his “ex-compartment” had witnessed the whole drama and just couldn’t stop laughing at the poor man’s plight, while he grinned sheepishly!!!

Ae dil, hai mushkil jeena yahaan, Zara hatke, zara bachke, Yeh hai Bombay meri jaan!! 😀😀😘😘

How are the great performers manufactured?

“If you want to be the best, you have to do things that other people aren’t willing to do.” Michael Phelps.

He was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) at age 9. He started learning swimming, very reluctantly, at 7, on his mother’s insistence. His elder sister, Whitney, was a champion swimmer. He learned swimming out of sibling rivalry and also sibling motivation. At 15, he was the youngest American athlete to participate in Olympics. At 31, he was the oldest American swimmer to get the gold medal in Olympics swimming. He played 5 Olympics and won 28 medals (23 gold medals, shown in the above photo) and set 39 world records in swimming. Michael Phelps is the performer of the highest order, by any standards. Why could only Phelps do it? What was that he did which nobody was prepared to do?

Great performances are outcome of identifying the world class traits and imparting the state of art training to it.

Bob Bowman, the trainer of Michael Phelps for that last 20 years says, when Michael came to him he had a few things with him. He has a long torso and short legs. This helped him to reduce the resistance of his body with water. His humongous set of feet is attached to extremely flexible ankles, which work like fins (similar to a shark). Athletes often envy Phelps because it has been scientifically proven that his body produces only half the lactic acid that his rivals need to handle. This significantly reduces his recovery time and he can get ready for the next round of swim faster than anybody else. Additionally, he hardly gets stiff muscles or any other muscular problems because of his genetics. Phelps has huge palms, which helps his paddling capacity. (Courtesy: https://www.sciencea...om). Those were his traits. He had a gene of the great swimmer. His body was unique and the most suited to swimming. When something outstanding is achieved in the world then it is always a combination of natural and human elements. Natural elements are God’s gift. Human elements are diligently developed through training and practice.

Natural elements are hardware of the success and human elements are the software.
The harder part is developing this software. God alone makes the hardware but it needs a team to develop such software. The player, the coach, the team, support staff, cheer leaders and fans make the team. Michael’s sisters were his cheer leaders. They attended most of his top matches and cheered him. The components of the software are: Passion Although Michael started swimming reluctantly at a very young age, it became his passion. He never gave up on it. I quote Michael here:

“I found something I love & never gave up”
Henry Ford once said, “Give me a man who sings on his job.” Michael is that man. He enjoyed his work. He became a fish, enjoyed the stay in water so much. He once said,

“I feel most at home in the water. I disappear. That’s where I belong.”
Focus Michael remained focused and never diluted his focus. For swimming, he traveled all parts of America and also many parts of the world. He said a funny thing:

“People say to me, You’re so lucky. You get to see the world. But I don’t. I go to the hotel and the pools and back again. THAT’S IT.”
Michael clearly knew his focus he never went to sight-seeing trips, anywhere, when he went to play matches. He had a purpose and he stuck to it. Goal Orientation Bob admitted that he never saw anybody as goal oriented as Michael is. In Michael’s own words:

“The more you dream the farther you get.”
Consistency & Hardwork Before securing the initial Olympic medals he worked consistently for 6 years for 365 days a year. He practiced on his birthday, on Chrismas day. When he was not well, he took medicines and swam. He had no holiday or leave. Discipline Bob told that Michael went to him when he was 11. He was an amazing swimmer for his age but lacked discipline. Bob identified that weakness and they jointly worked on that weakness. Self Actualization Michael never did anything to earn fame or money. He was the man who got into self-actualization mode. He described what swimming meant to him:

“I want to test my maximum and see how much I can do. And I want to change the world of swimming.”
One can draw corporate lessons from Michaels life story. Students can also learn many things from him and through his success.

Career Lessons We must identify our traits. The God has given feathers to birds, fins to fish, nails & teeth to a tiger. He gives something to everyone so that we can use it, develop it and make our living out of it.

We will have a huge advantage in today’s competitive world if we develop our career around our traits.
Remember, traits are just hardware. We need to develop the software. Passion, focus, consistency, goal orientation, Discipline, hard-work, and self-actualization are required to be developed by us. Nobody else can do it for us. We have to do workouts ourselves if we want to remain fit.

Career is like fitness, can’t be delegated completely.
However, we will have to find our trainer. Michael identified a right trainer and swam for him for the entire life. bob Bowman said he spent 90% of his life on Phelps. He was always on the board when Michael was in the water. Finding such teachers is difficult. Only lucky people get such crazy teachers who give up their life for yours. Many people approach me for the advice on their career. Do they want to know how do they identify their passion? I ask them three questions: What do you do on your vacation? Tell me one thing that you want to do so desperately that you will pay money for letting you do that? What your girlfriend/boyfriend like the most about you? My advice connects their response to these three questions.

Corporate Lessons from Michael Phelp’s Mega Success While working in organizations we must remember the concept of traits. Both the genders have certain traits. We should not ignore them under gender equality. When we say gender equality we mean ‘gender social equality’. The respect & status of both the genders must be the same. They should not be discriminated only for their gender. Evey team must have a good combination of men & women. But we must understand the traits and distribute our work. The traits may not be gender specific. These days most of the traits are uni-gender. We must identify the traits of a person and allocate the job. It can be done only when it is the most required and we are up against very difficult tasks, like winning an Olympic medal. For normal, routine work it is highly unnecessary and can create friction among the team members. When we say that we should not leave a single stone unturned, this should be the last stone which you must turn.

When we lose important battles against our competition despite giving our 100%, then remember traits played the difference.
For the final attack, we need to set our team as per the traits, train it well and make them develop their own software. When the team wins the trainer wins, cheer leaders win and the fans win. Now is the time….jump in the pool… good luck… We want 28 medals…&.. the world records.
