hello all, my friend traveling to USA for 15 days..we have searched online but couldn’t get satisfactory answers
query is apart from wifi there what will be the solution for data there? searched about T-mobile 28 dollar prepaid sim with unlimited data so will it work in his indian phone directly or it needs to be unlocked? is there any similar option available?
and for incoming SMS otp does international roaming needed, vodafone postpaid. i guess its 199 per month.

From my experiences so far with airtel. Mine is a post paid, but have heard similar experience from prepaid users.
- I enabled international roaming pack on one visit (about 3.5k), the data/calls usage was seamless
- Another time, I did not enable international roaming, but the incoming sms worked seamless. Make sure you do not cut if there any incoming call coming, that may trigger roaming pack activation from network folks. I just survived on public wifi which most of the outlets provide.
- US carriers SIMs should work seamless in Indian Phones, that again depends on frequency band they operate and your phone can accept.
What phone does your friend use?
redmi note 7 pro
how about we block all incoming calls…does that too trigger roaming pack activation
never tried, but most of the times people can’t reach you since they will just be dialing the number without adding ISD format before that.
Buy Lycamobile sim .it will work on all phones and all calls to India is free
i was getting incoming calls with no roaming pack on airtel
i got sms too without any issue
i used public wifi and loaded skype credit of 10$ to call indian numbers
only shortcoming in above process is you need a public wifi to call any number
Best is jios 1100rs international roaming recharge.
You get some 1300+tt valid for 28days
2rs/mb(charged in kb) data
2rs incoming
2rs outgoing to usa n india.
Make sure to recharge 5-6hrs before leaving and restart phone once you get activation sms.
Cheaper than there local plans itself.
Tested in canada by relative.
does redmi note 7 pro works for local prepaid sim? i searched that many indian phones won’t work there with prepaid sim
also if anyone has experience about uber…does indian uber credits we have in our account works there? thinking to buy uber gv and add it to account
Uber works fine in other countries but credits in INR will not work abroad.
Also need to ensure a credit card for which international transactions is enabled is linked to Uber account to make payments there as other mode of payment such as PayTM, upi etc will not work.
It will work on quadband phones
Myself using jio 5751 pack for a month. Try it.
try lyca sim for 19$ plans upto 50dollar for truly unlimited plan… by far the cheapest, but it is not that easily available. u can try h2o, mint etc. all these mvno’s use att and t mobile for their coverage. so it is good.
one thing to consider is, if taking local indian mobiles, better check the 3g 4g frequencies as t mobile network (3g/4g)is not supported by chinese mobiles bought in india. att is the better bet here.
also for network, u can try att with their autotopup for unlimited data at about 50$
Incoming sms doesn’t need international roaming..its free… However at least on redmi note 4 no US operator sim was catching internet in US …
