Hi guys,

Want to replace my old 1.5 tonne window AC with SPLIT AC.
Today I went to the market and I am getting deals on on these:

₹34500 LLYOD invertor AC
₹31500 LLYOD NON INVERTER AC
₹27000 MICROMAX Non inverter AC

All split and 3star.

I am going to install for my room only for my personal use only. What are cons and pros of invertor and non INVERTER AC ? I am going to use maximum 10hr a day. What about long term usage ? Maintenance cost ?

As per my opinion.. your three options are not worth for the price.. you can get from good brands by spending extra 3-5k (don’t ever go with Micromax atleast)

Inverter AC is not like general inverter concept.. the real concept is like hero bike i3s technology (hope u will know about it)

Inverter AC not stops compressor fully when thermostat cut off occurs, it will keeps on running at lower power.. Later it runs with ful power when thermostat starts.

Normal AC stops compressor fully when thermostat cut off occurs.. and starts at regular cycles.. so here power consumption increases due to high power load required to start an compressor from idle state.

Inverter AC = high initial purchasing cost with best energy saving
Normal AC = moderate cost with moderate saving
Go for brands like Voltas, carrier, lg, Whirlpool,Samsung, Daikin, even videocon (am using) which are good at material and somewhat good at service.
Ensure full copper coil unit (cheaper ac’s comes with aluminium material, which is not long lasting)
Hope you understood plus1

This depends if you are heavy user.. Inverter AC if you are like 12 hour user.. 5star non inverter if you are 24×7 user because it means AC is on all the time. The difference between 5 and 3 star is like 10-15%.. So depending on your bill the difference of 100 per month is 1000 or more per year.. or 10000 over 10 years.. Very light user also 3 star non inverter ac as the price difference of 5K or so wont be worth the electric bill saving..

Also 3 star inverter is like 5+3 star non inverter AC.. But since inverter is on all the time, it consumers more power even after the room is cool enough. But price difference between 3star non and 3 star inverter is 10K.. If you buy cheap AC, it would use aluminum. You can not weld aluminum which is also much thinner than copper but any problem and you have to replace entire aluminum structure.. No welding like copper which is heavier but also more efficient.. After a few years corrosion becomes a problem. So if you plan to use AC for decades then go for copper.. aluminum will definitely go bad after 5 or so years. Which means the part that go bad you replace the entire metal which is costly and adds up.. I am saying this because I know people who have been using their windows AC since 25 years.. So paying more now and getting one that lasts saves costs later on.. Remember this years 5star is next years 4 star.. So many things to look at.. I can not recommend any particular brand as non of them seem to be made to last now. It is not just the AC but all the accessories that come with it like the ION filter or plasma filter etc which all adds to cost.. But these also go bad fast.. So the extra you pay for all that only lasts a few years unless you want to pay a lot to repair it. Also models vary.. You can get cheap LG as well as designer LG AC’s so depending on where you place the indoor unit makes a difference.. The acrylic covers look spiffy compared to just plain vanilla plastic white covers etc..

I have a Samsung auto voltage fridge which means it works form 80V to 280V.. I am not sure how that works as the entire thing is sealed.. But it don’t need a stabilizer and it works through many power problems. And its been working for a decade.. I was skeptical at first but now the doors have catching rust but it cools well so looking for a replacement but cant find one like it.. I would love to get an AC like this.. Also AC’s have many filters and options.. It is also one of the most dangerous to your health appliance.. It can develop mold and other fungus that can kill and does kill many hundreds of people. Good filters etc prevent mild growth etc.. This is especially bad when you don’t use it for months and do not power it down properly and leave standing water on the fins which will cause mold growth which dry’s and turns to powder.. Which when turned on spreads into the room.. legionnaires disease is passed this way..

Unless you are absent minded and live in an area with power problems do not use a stabilizer which reduces efficient 10-20%.. I know everyone wants to sell you a stabilizer as they get a big commission from it. But remember if your AC uses 1000 a month, you are wasting like 200 on a stabilizer.. many AC’s have built in circuits for power problems so check.. One of the features if the AC will not turn on the compressor until 5 mins after power is restored in case there was a power failure so compressor do not go bad. A stabilizer wont save your AC for any of the problems I seen.. Blown power transformer, lightning strike, shorted power lines etc.. For a fridge this is more important as the unit is far away and its not convenient for you to go check.. But with an AC in the bed room, if there is storm then turn off the AC etc.. I never used a stabilizer but I use common sense and do not use the AC without thinking. I have a home inverter which beeps when there is a power fluctuation and I go turn off the power to the AC. Or when the power goes I turn off the AC switch and only turn It back on after power is restored for 10 mins or so.. As you know in India the guy just flips the circuit breaker back and it will blow again and he will keep this up until a lot of peoples ac and fridges and TV’s blow up.. They dont seem to have the concept to find out why the circuit breaker blew and fix the fault.. Usually its fixing by burning through the fault..

I forgot to mention something very important that seems to happen in india a lot.. People also use their fans at the same time. This is not a problem elsewhere because most of it is central AC so the fans are placed far away.. But if you use a fan in the room that fan usually is an AC fan that uses 60-80 watts of power.. Why is this important? Because if the fan uses only 1 phase which is the majority of fans used by people even if they have 3 phase power, the electricity used is double that would be used by a 3 phase industrial fan. It takes a lot of energy to convert a single 1 phase to a triple 3 phase current needed for an electric motor.. If you used a 3 phase fan the same fan would only use half the power so like 30-40 watts.. imagine if the entire country started using 3 phase fans.. It would mean electricity for everyone..

If you are using the fan in an AC room that 30-40 watts used by the fan is released as heat..So it is like having a 40 watt heater in the room and if you ever try to hold the motor in your hand it would burn you.. The AC also has to cool this heat.. So you are also spending like 100watts of AC on cooling this 40 watt generated by the fan..

You could get a DC fan.. Now available everywhere if you look.. It uses half the power requirement of an AC fan and you can get the money back in 3-4 years due to the higher cost of buying a DC fan.. BUT if you are using a fan in an AC room, A DC fan would recover the cost in under an year due to the AC not using up a lot more electricity to cool the room.. Forget energy efficient fans and such.. It is not efficient to convert a single phase to triple phase.. Even electric trains use single phase and they also waste a lot of electricity this way because DC does not travel every far and also welding torches uses DC so you can imagine high current DC is as dangerous as AC.. So you consider cost of using AC or DC as well.. They could use triple phase and save a lot of electricity but imagine 3 wires running along the tracks.. In a house you can use triple phase motors, central AC’s all use triple phases so they don’t have to worry about this either.. Why no one sells triple phase fans for the home is startling as it would save electric bill for everyone and most everyone have 3 phase power coming to the home.
