I want to buy a backup solution for my computer so please help me make a good decision.

AMD FX 6300
22 Inch monitor
1 GB Graphics card
2 Hard drives
16 GB RAM

I have APC 600 VA UPS but it trip and restart & only gives 2-3 minutes backup.

Have unused inverter (battery dead, if buying a small battery and attaching APC 600 VA UPS to it can help then also please suggest)

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can change the battery and it will be good to go.
Open the ups check the battery type and replace it with a new one.
Last time when I changed my frontech ups battery it cost ₹400 with old battery exchanged.

@Nomad Sorry for the confusion, I am talking about adding new battery to the regular inverter. I.e. 50 Ah car battery or similar then connect 600 VA to the output?

Is it possible to add 1000 VA battery in 600 VA UPS?

Please don’t try adding car battery to a computer ups because computer ups’s capacitor is designed to bear load of 12v battery if you add a bigger battery it might fry the capacitor.

I have Microtek Inverter -- Is it possible to connect a small battery only for computer USE?

Then Connect APC 600 VC UPS to the computer?

Or buy a high capacity UPS?

Here are some Do and Dont’s

Do not use automotive batteries with home inverter.
Reason: Automotive batteries are designed to provide a very large amount of current for a very short period of time and at the same time quickly get charged. While inverter batteries are designed to provide a small amount of current consistently for longer durations of time.
The design itself is different.

I believe you can use your inverter as UPS for your computer. Most inverters can do that. You don’t need to connect another UPS in between. You should be able to get a low capacity rated battery for your inverter. If you feel the resulting back up time is more for your computer, you may extend the inverter wiring to some of the lighting/fan in your place

High capacity UPS will usually burn your pockets which may not give huge difference in backup time. Factually, UPS design as such is not that efficient. Even if it is efficient, it is difficult to pack a high rated battery in a small compact size.
Philosophy here is people don’t like huge UPS in their home, they want it compact/cute. But the back up time is directly proportional to battery capacity, and battery capacity is proportional to size of the battery.
