Citi rewards credit card gives 10x points for departmental and apparel stores. Means it is applicable on grocery and  clothing stores like Pantaloons etc. And 1 point equals 0.35 paise. So, it translates to 3.5% 2.8%.
Annual charges 1000₹ waived off on spends of 30000₹ annually.

Please correct me if I am wrong and also please share your review on this card.

10x is correct . But how do you classify departmental and apparel store both offline and online ?
For online amazon and flipakrt will be considered as?
Offline may be more clear like Vishal mega mart central pantaloons …may be classified as apparel stores?

Also it’s 2.8 percent return as its per 125 Rs.
This is a very basic card and should be taken only for additional benefits. It just needs 30000 annual spends to keep it free. I use it for their offers like on bigbasket. And recently used it at Bom duty-free for 15% cash back.

but there might be MCCs of certain stores/restaurants which won’t be under 10x category…. what is the way to identify which stores/restaurants don’t fall in the 10x category?

Benefit of 7000rs OR benefit of 10x points earned @ 2.8% on max 7000 spends, which would be say 196 rs!! confused

In 2nd case, even a great rate like 2.8% cannot make it good enough due to caoping concept coming into picture.

btw, they use such a simple brand name like ‘citi’, but such complicated conceptualized and worded tnc!! flushed

Identifying classification, esp. for stores like amazon/fk, which sells good across multiple categories (and typically classified as ‘departmental stores’!!), lacks clarity and is a challenge. Not sure if it could vary for same store for diff cards?.

Until Visa/MC disclose readily such information used by them and everyone else in the chain almost like a standard, things will continue to depend on things like guess work, insider info, or some limited disclosures provided by some credit cards (liek indusind) in their stmts. confused

If 10x is linked to nature of classification category, then it would have nothing to do with online vs offline (assuming its not explicitly stated there in tnc by them).

So that answers it all (if it is indeed correct, which is likely, though need more firm evidence/cinfirmation).

Subject to qualifier: Unless there is 10x offer for the period mentioned on amazon itself!! wink

It’s not good for offline shopping unless there is any specific offer.
I am using this card since July last year. Applied for it via citi bank website to receive Rs. 750 worth flipkart voucher.

PS: If you apply via referral link then you will get referral bonus of Rs.2k after meeting some spend criteria.

Rwd point rate is in range of 0.28%. So nothing great. Its actually bad given their tnc now on min 10k points reqd before redemption.

Of course, good part on rwd pts side is that they never expire, and can be redeemed to stmt credit aka cash.

So it is a decent card, but rwd pts is certainly not the reason for that conclusion i would believe!! sunglasses Real worth is justified by good offers (esp during sale on amazon/fk, and bigbasket… and did i say snapdeal wink).

Another recent but important angle is now added: Co-branded Citi IOC was considered better than Citi rwds if person has that kind of usage pattern. And then came the co-branded Citi Paytm First, where rwd point rate (and may be addnl offers too on paytm side) is multiple times in comparison to citi rwds / ioc variants… This needs to be explored more though, as I hv not thought much abt it yet.

Income limit should be on lower side. Annual spends for fee waiver itself is rather low at 30k per anniversary year!!

Amazon txn – So its exactly matching rwd pts rate of 0.28% aka 1x, as expected!! = Not worth using it. There is huge opportunity cost loss vs cards like sbi simplyclick, icici amazon pay, scb ulti, hdfc dcb, etc to contrast with those giving highest rwd pts rate.

H&M store -so 10x working u mean on offline fashion. Decent/Good for those who are fine with 2.8% and have limited options otherwise… Good that at least its working as expected there!! sunglasses

But lot of offers have t&c stating that paytm first card is not eligible for those offers. Else paytm first would be the best choice

Yes ceiling is there for10x points.
That’s why this is a basic card.
Need 10000 points before you can redeem for cash back. But the points don’t expire.
