I used to get promotional SMS rarely. But recently I started getting frequent promotional SMS from builders(Bangalore). The major signup I remember is CRED, which I started using in December starting. Is the CRED selling our data?

Yes. They’re selling the data. Since, signing up I am receiving SMSes from many websites asking or telling me to get new credit cards. Even , those credit cards which I already have. I have activated full DND on my number, still these companies are able to send me SMSes and that too atleast 10/day. I even called Vodafone customer care but they were also of no help. Recently I have even started receiving calls from share trading brokers. Not sure who leaked my number to them.
Is there a way I can get rid of these nuisances without having to change my number?
Ask them to block specific small codes which you get. Wrote a proper email along with those SMS codes which you get and they will help you block it.
I faced similar situation few months back and when I complaint for this via twitter as I was on full DND then called and confirmed me to block those SMS codes which I was receiving.
If you are not using DND app, start using it. Keep complaining to unregister their mobile number (who ever calls you) by sending SMS using the DND app. After few weeks, the volume of calls will come down since they loose their mobile number.
i tried, but most of time, operator doesn’t take any action.
After cred registration, I have started getting lot of sms. I believe they themselves send promotional sms instead of selling to other parties. How else they can earn?
They are giving our phone numbers directly or indrectly to many credit rating third party websites, bankbazaaar, etc. Now i am receiving so many such messages and even complained to kunal on twitter and got a call stating whether i am in DND, DND or not DND, they should not do this, regretting signing up for cred
It’s weird but I am having opposite experience…all marketing calls has suddenly stopped from past 1-2 months since I came on cred…but yes, it’s true they might be selling the data…infact most of such service company does that (inspite of what is written in privacy policy)
When cred were giving chiller then everyone signed up for it. How do you think CRED will get their investment back?? They will share data with anyone who is willing to pay money, its not a secret at all and companies are doing it since ages. I love my privacy and did not sign up for cred.
their main business is sell User data
read their business model
Its an open secret and is not limited to CRED alone.
But all I expect is to share with decent organizations and protect their systems from hacking which is very dangerous.
