Jio as primary sim - feedback needed

How many of you dimers are using Jio as primary sim? Need feedback on call quality and data connectivity.

It’s been more than 7 to 8 months since I stopped using Jio which was the secondary sim as I moved to a single sim phone. Would like to know how good is the network now, is it a big risk to port my primary number to Jio or is it worth a try?

I keep going to my native place twice a month on farm work and sadly apart from Jio no other network has a data connection there.

I won’t recommend it as your primary carrier. But it depends on area mostly. Do test before porting. Buy a jio sim and check signal quality, strength, call drops, data speeds etc in both your home town and native place.
Test jio with Voda/Airtel then make a choice.

Thanks for the update guys. One of my employees uses a Jio sim, will ask him about feedback in our location.

Yes, you have to inquire to people within your location. For me, living in outskirts of Kolkata, Jio is fine. I mean I just need 24×7 call and text messages, and that works. Data though, a different story altogether. It’s more like 18×7 if not less. But for what I’m paying, I don’t give the slightest fuk.

Depends on ur location reception if u continually get a good reception jio will be at its best. My brother had jio as primary sim but in his office he could not get good signals so stopped using it and got idea. But in home and area around his campus very good reception. Thats why i use it as a primary sim. So ask some people living in there about signals. This will be best. And jio has the best voice call quality as i have experienced. But many will not be in sync with me. So to conclude ask some people around UR LOCATION. Not dimers

You didn’t mention the area you belong to.

I have 6 of my family members using Jio as primary numbers in Mumbai and Pune. At least 14 of my neighbors using Jio primary in Pune. 5 members using it as primary in Gujarat. Most of the numbers ported in Jio for more than a year. No problems whatsoever.

I moved to Jio as primary number in the first month they started port in. In the first month I faced calling airtel and bsnl numbers but it improved gradually. For last 3 months I ported out of Jio and moved to Idea as my company is paying the bills if I do that. I have realized very quickly that Jio was the best in terms of connectivity and data speed. In fact when there is an ongoing call the data flows on 3G instead of 4G on Idea. That was not the case with Jio.

Short and Simple advice : Move to Jio and have the best experience.

Using Jio as my Primary Sim, ported from Vodafone to Jio last year (June). I have no secondary sim option in my mobile.

I live in Kolkata where JIO has quite a good coverage (at least I have felt so).
However if you are a person who travels a lot, JIO is not that good in several places like the hills and several interior areas where others like Vodafone/Airtel/BSNL has a good coverage.

Also currently everybody else provide similar plans like JIO (give or take 10-20% less maybe), don’t take JIO if you get similar plans elsewhere, JIO has become too crowded. Also another thing Jio is very good at, is the free content they provide, like JioTV/JioCinema/JioMusic/JioMags etc… these are best in Jio, you won’t need other premium options like Saavn/Hotstar/Magzter etc…

Being in a marketing role I go on field all day at least 4 days a week in Hyderabad so coverage across various industrial locations in Hyderabad is a concern for me, this I could validate from our employee as he uses a Jio sim and goes around to the same locations. Jio is good for this scenario.

Next comes one or twice a month visit to our farm in our native place, here Jio works but my current operator BSNL has literally no data service. So again, Jio works.

Next comes travel to various locations in India. I had a Jio sim in my iPad before and the service is terrible, especially when I travel to remote locations and hills. BSNL rocks in such locations, in fact even in Leh I had BSNL working on 2G at least. I travel on vacation once a month so this is quite important too. So Jio won’t be useful here.

Last but not the least is international calls to US and China. Have a few clients in both these countries so rate cutter packs for making calls to both these countries is important too. I am able to get the price for US calls (Rs. 1.5 per minute if I am not wrong) on Jio without any rate cutter pack. Unable to know the price for calls to China yet. Guess Jio is better as prices are low even without any rate cutter packs.

Hence the confusion.

Update: I moved my primary sim from BSNL to Idea and secondary sim from Idea to Jio.

The speeds on Jio are crazy good at my home and at random places I tried in Hyderabad. Added bonus, it works well in our native village too.

Idea though is more consistent in terms of calls and data. Overall, looks like a happy combo.

As someone who travels a lot and at remote places also, I use 4 SIMs, Airtel, Jio, Vodafone, and BSNL. Jio is generally good. However, there are still connectivity issues with other networks and data speeds can be problematic at places. There are certain places where Jio do not have any network, inclduing the whole of Arunachal. Would not suggest using Jio for Bank OTP purposes.
