You mean to say that the Kashmiris and north eastern people are suffering because of differences in opinion? You should also know very well how much the south is neglected by the centre. Is it again just a matter of difference of opinions? I won’t buy that. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Even after all these years of independence it is only a particular section of the society which is enjoying the fruits of freedom while the majority here is still struggling even to survive let alone live a life of dignity. It’s clearly an outcome of the evil of vested interests holding power, not just difference of opinions.

Kashmir and north east both are victims of constant insurgencies. They deserve a different thread altogether for the complexities involved in their administrations. Yes, south is neglected in the union govt.s and world affairs because of lack of representation due to difference in language etc., but we sometimes effect a change through alliances and representation in Rajya Sabha. How did English end up being an associate national language and as the official court language…because of southern states. We are also much ahead of the northern states in socio-economic indicators thanks to the provision for strong enough State Govts….and our political neutrality at the centre helped us wade through that period of “State-emergencies” in the 70s-80s with a consistent state govt to usher in this development.
And we are not even so fractious as to have a civil war like in the US where the northern and southern states fought against each other.

So, what should have happened by virtue of our being part of this country had to be brought about only through struggles. And the story goes on in many other spheres. Is that the sign of a free country? https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_confused.gif

Its a sign of a ‘good-enough’ union of states. Consider this a closely knit symbiotic relationship between states….a stronger “European union” and you’ll start to see the bigger picture. Yes, we are inadequately represented in the central govt. decisions but lets try and improve things the slow and hard way than choosing the easy way out… like Britain just did.

True…every country has something to be reformed(Slavery, racism in the US). Issues like these need the collective involvement of the populace to bring about a change in the people’s mindset. I already see people wishing to end this ingrained prejudice with their generation by shielding their kids from any such poisonous notions…I have seen people make fun of Priyanka Chopra in Reddit AMAs for having endorsed fairness products. Its upto us to be the generation that reformed the evil or the one to have been a part of it.

@kiddo not that I have the faintest hope of someone your level to even realise this, much less know it..

but what you are doing and expecting others to do could actually be an insult (being disrespectful) of the Flag and may be interpreted as going against the Act.

The tricolour cannot be used as a festoon, rosette or bunting.

You had only mentioned the National Flag and that too with the loaded dhamki originally when you made the topic: that those who are Indians and those who are patriotic and love India will do it.
[thereby in one swoop labelling anyone who doesn’t do so as not being: a good Indian]

pretty strange then, till this moment since yesterday: you have not been able to list 5 things that you can proudly say for yourself as an example of being a good citizen, worthy Indian.

we did not elect anyone to power. It is a flaw in “Democracy” that a party with 31% vote share forms the government. The remaining 69% are helpless! Is there a solution? I can’t think of any.

As I said, I have traveled and lived in many countries (all developed nations except Mexico) and my opinion is that the biggest problem in India is the high population density. Every time I come back to India after gap of 2-3 weeks, I feel “Where do all these people come from”. High population leads to poverty and unemployment. You can’t preach about integrity to someone who is hungry and homeless.

Thats due to the “First past the post” system…Britain follows the same system and it has similar numbers and percentages to show for in its elections. The other system is “proportional representation”…but the drawback being it leads to the formation of unstable governments and difficulty for the illiterate to understand it. Our constitution makers at that time rightfully chose the former to allow for stable govt.s to keep the already fractious nation unified. There are a few vocal parliamentarians who vouch for “proportional representation” repeatedly.

High population is not a bad thing entirely. High population is a consequence of a demographic dividend and its something every country would kill to have again. Almost every country goes through this phase and its upto the country to maximise it to transform itself into a major economic power…just like what China did in the 70s-80s. And India is in the middle of it at the moment….and its upto each one of us to effect a change in whichever way possible… instead of just complaining why things wont get any better in the country.

China and India cannot be compared. China had and has communist dictatorship (they call that as government). They realized the population problem and implemented a one child policy. That has led to demographic divide that has become a problem now.

India is in in the middle of “it” as per the gas spreading around. India is in the middle of nothing in reality. I agree that it is up to each on us. However, (repeat) you cannot preach anything to hungry and homeless people. The government has a very funny way of calculating inflation. The reality is that cost of living is about 15% more this year than it was last year. A majority of the Indian population is struggling to make ends meet amidst steeply rising living costs. We are in a vicious circle. I am not complaining, just stating facts.

Who told you that every country would kill to have high population? There was a time but not in the last decade. If that was the case, US and EU would have welcomed all illegal immigrants.

China isn’t a dictatorship https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_eek.gif It can be best described as an oligarchic authoritarian rule with democracy at local levels. They don’t elect their government, but they have done really well. People in the US don’t elect their President directly….and they have done well. And yet we sit and complain that our country doesn’t have proportional representation and it is beyond redemption.

Yes, China realized the problem of high population and implemented the one child policy. Now its growth has slowed because its demographic dividend has passed. And in Jan 2016, they have relaxed the one-child policy to a two child policy to cause a demographic dividend again and stimulate growth. Countries all over the world that have passed the phase have stagnated in growth…Japan, Russia, Europe. All their authorities plead with their people to go home and make babies. France recently made it illegal to send office mails after working hours. Germany has said that it’d take each and every willing refugee in the ongoing European refugee crisis.

Why are you hellbent on preaching to some inaccessible homeless people….there are people all around you…your family, cousins, neighbours,co-workers, people on the internet forums….everyone needs to educate the other regarding racism, tax evasion, corruption, casteism and so much more. I don’t understand the “funny way” of calculating inflation because thats the only way(more or less) govt.s all over the world do. And inflation is something that goes hand in hand with economic growth…..no country in the world wants an inflation rate below 2%. Its funny how you say you state facts and come up with a magic figure of 15% pulled right out of the hat.

Exactly my point about China. Someone was saying we are getting to where China is – whatever he meant! You are saying India is better than China – wonderful! At least you did not compare India with Somalia This discussion was not about political parties or personalities. When you drag them in, it just shows your lack of confidence, you feel I am referring to one or more of them!

I never said that India is better than China. I meant that when we or any one moves from a democratic country to communist then it is almost impossible to survive at least for me. Do not know about others. Again I used my constitution rights to express my opinions https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif
