i have a lapy wd was inbuilt 500 gb when i purchased my laptop and wd worked for 4 years then then i decided to upgrade and made wd external and now using hgst 1 tb from 1.5 years.and as per my experience both worked flawlessly and even wd working from 5 + years .so both in my view is best option .go with more warranty so u can be safe

Better get a hybrid drive, if you plan on keeping the lappy for a long time. In terms of reliability pretty much all drives are crappy these days, though HGST is till the best maker statistically, whilst SSHD have longer warranty & generally better reliability.

@desidude2013 Highlighted the important points. An SSHD or SSD (you can also buy a slightly used SSD from eBay if you have budget concerns) would also improve the overall speed of the laptop remarkably. See: http://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...

It was indeed bought by WD but they operate independently & yet HGST is superior in virtual all respects, like how Samsung went initially with Seagate.

I haven’t found any difference in quality per se. What I wanted to say was both operate under same umbrella so not to worry about the quality as OP initially had asked.

Can any one help me on this – i bought the hard drive and received it. on checking the warranty status it shows me a year less than the date of purchase. i wrote to the company but they said its valid from the date the drive left their warehouse.

then why does flipkart say 3 years warranty on the product… i have contacted flipkart and they have said to wait till the matter is solved

My internal HD failed 3 years back, I never bought a new internal HD. I removed the HD and since then I am using my laptop with the help of 8GB pendrive which is flashed with live LinuxMint https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif waiting for the day when HDs will be history and SSD will be available at cheap prices. Till then Linux rocks https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif

Warranty is always valid from the date of sale by the vendor you can file a case if they don’t fulfill it.

+1
Why the hell customer should bother for when the product left the warehouse. They are not buying vegetables.
