Maharashtra FDA seizes fakes of popular soaps (Dettol, Lux) from Mumbai mfg unit

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administrator (FDA) has seized duplicate soap bars of popular brands like Lux and Dettol from a manufacturing unit in Mumbai, learns CNBC-TV18.

The state FDA is trying to crack down on the spurious products distribution network.

Sources say so far stock worth about Rs 7 lakh has been seized from the premises including packaging.

Maharashtra FDA is believed to have written to the original manufacturers of these products i.e. HUL and Reckitt Benckiser to find out solutions to control such counterfeiting.

While HUL spokesperson told CNBC-TV18 the company had reached out to FDA for action on this premises, Reckitt said they have not yet received any communication from the state government in this regard.
