Man orders mobile phone from online site, gets brick instead

A man in Aurangabad in Maharashtra has filed a complaint against a leading online retailer for allegedly sending him a piece of brick instead of a mobile handset that he ordered, police said Wednesday.

Gajanan Kharat told the police that on October 9, he placed an order for a mobile phone on the shopping site and also paid Rs 9,134 for it, Harsul police station inspector Manish Kalyankar said. Kharat subsequently received a message from the e-commerce company that the product would be delivered in a week’s time. The man received a packet from the retailer last Sunday.

However, when he opened it, he allegedly found a piece of brick inside it instead of the mobile handset, Kalyankar said. The man then called up the courier delivery man, who told him that their responsibility was only to deliver the parcel and not to see what was inside it, he said. Kharat lodged a complaint Tuesday against the e-commerce company at the Harsul police station here. The police official said they have registered a case under IPC sections pertaining to cheating and are probing it. — PTI

My brother ordered headphones from Flipkart in the recent sale.
There were no headphones in the package.

Plenty of scam sellers on these portals.

Should always check if you are buying from amazon fulfilled or flipkart assured etc.And only buy high value purchases from these two.

Let me filter it more
Flipkart= Retailnet, omnitechretail, truecomretail
Amazon- cloudtail, appario
These are only sellers i look for even though if they are charging a bit higher ( and of course if brand outlets are selling directly)
No other sellers take money from my pocket

not just non fulfilled seller , my friends bought PC from amazon fulfilled seller with high ratings and what he received a pc cable in small pouch, he opened it in front of delivery boy with video.
in amazon fulfilled they do pack items and take responsibility of fulfillment and still such things happen. also when you complaint for return then they investigate like customer is lying and claim that we do quality check before shipment, to speed up resolution process please provide id proof.

after this incident i found out that amazon fulfilled tag can be awarded to those sellers who are trusted and they can store and pack item in their own warehouse, so those sellers are misusing this policy.

Most of my shopping is done on Amazon. Their return policy and cc support is much more reliable for me. I filter out the rest of the sellers on Amazon whenever I am looking for something.

I only shop on Flipkart for some Flipkart exclusive items like Vu tvs and some mobiles etc or when I am getting good deal from “big” sellers.Other than that I don’t trust either Flipkart or their after sales support.

not for high end things, but for FMCG, pet care, baby care: even RedLily (Hyd. based) is reliable. (founder is an industry veteran and some of their warehouses in major cities are practically managed by Amazon themselves. as in, complete integration although separate on paper).

Cloudtail aka AmazonIN took 34 dayshttps://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/535130/medium/5339415106.gif?1539789364https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/535131/medium/5339415102.gif?1539789367 after delivery, just to get the Seagate warranty dates properly set!https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/535131/medium/5339415102.gif?1539789367

simply kept buying timehttps://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/535133/medium/5339415100.gif?1539789544 every four days!

it is an open secret that consumers (non Enterprise) get the royal boot in India, thanks to questionable practices of National distributor or importing agency. they simply log all serials sold by them, even before final sale to retail buyer. Thus, as per Seagate portal the warranty often “starts” and ends many months in advance than the actual date of purchase.

and it took over a month (34 days) despite Seagate themselves being independently reached and personal phone calls at Cloudtail Bengaluru office (relevant pointsman for the brand, within CIPL).
until the request to ‘close our account’ was given they kept insisting on keeping the product despite the warranty already having started 5months hence!!
the ‘major’ point was lost even on escalations that we were being robbed short of warranty by five months and that 3-4years in the future, we cannot take recourse to ‘Amazon Support’.
