I know experienced motorcyclists are here, who can teach me a lot of things. But In my personal observations, a lot of people are unaware of a few life saving tricks.
1) Proper technique to turn right or left is very important. Normally what we do is to turn our handles in our desired direction. Wrong. Remember this thing. Push right to go to right, this is motorcycle’s rule. Say a truck is coming at you. In order to avoid collision, you veer away from the truck. But chances are that the truck gonna hit you. That’s the truth. There is a phenomena called counter-steering. Pro tip: Use your palms. Say I wanna turn right. I press my right palm on my handle away from my body. Technically you are turning your handles towards left, but physics comes in picture n you ll be turning towards right. Practice this on an empty road, field. 2) Proper knowledge about your brakes. Some of my friends share their knowledge about braking. They are either afraid of front brakes or just don’t know the use of it. Some of them use both brakes simultaneously, which is a really proper way to use the brakes, and some of them just use rear brakes to slow down the bike and then to put the bike to a full stop using the front brake, which is the stupidest usage of brakes. If you care to inspect your bike, you will find that your front brake/s is/are bigger in size than the rear one. Well, in engineering people always try to reduce the unsprung mass. So, smart engineers became dumb suddenly and installed some big ass brakes in the front, just to show off? No. If you are moving in the bike, under sudden stoppage, you feel as if you have moved forward. Had not you got hold of your handles, it would have flung you out of your bike. It is an example of inertia. Even after the portion the vehicle stops, in contact with your bottom of course, you keep moving. So you jerk forward. Same thing happens with the motorcycle too. If you stop the motorcycle, this is what happens. You apply the brakes. The Brakes stop the wheels, the front wheel digs the ground a bit, the front telescopic shock absorbers squeezes in a bit, then linear motion of your bike translates into rotational motion(a bit, try to understand this. If you stop a moving body, crazy things happen. Bike stops. The entire length of bike will act like a rod, a rod fixed at one end but you can rotate the rod about that fixed point. Example door handle.). And if the speed is not dangerously high, there will be just a bit of jerk that is it. If you gonna use the rear brakes first, you will make your rear wheels slide right and left. You dont know that as you have never noticed. The reason front brakes are bigger is they are meant to be used first, while braking. 70% of the braking power comes from the front brakes, because of the mass transfer to the front during deceleration. Remedy Use progressive braking. Either do Just slowly squeeze your hand lever, no sudden braking or Use both brakes simultaneously, same technique explained in the first one. Please practice well before applying this thing in real life. You deserve to be a good driver. And rest of the drivers and pedestrians deserve it too. Because of the stupidity of people and other human errors, fortunately motorcycle brands have started fitting their bikes with combi brakes. 3) Braking distance is a very important parameter. Say you are travelling at 60KMPH. And you urgently apply your brakes(Front brakes or both brakes simultaneously in a progressive way or combi brake), and you ll notice, the bike stops after travelling some distance say, 10mt(example). So, try to find a open area. Ride at 50-60 kmph. Apply brakes urgently but progressively. Measure that distance. Maintain that much distance between vehicles. Cars gonna stop earlier and motorcycles will stop latter. This is important. As some idiots, most of the readers/citizens actually, tend to drive closer to the vehicle traveling in front of them. The vehicle in front of them, stops, but because of the braking distance of your vehicle is greater than the distance between you n the vehicle in front of you, 100% chance is that you gonna ram the vehicle. Try to calculate breaking distance of your vehicle at every possible operating speed you might find yourself in.
4) Know how to rev match your bike. Between your engine and rear driving wheel, there is one thing known as the gearbox. To avoid direct coupling of the engine to wheels and to allow engine to idle clutch is used. Clutch is connected to gearbox, so you can have flexibility to chose suitable speed at suitable engine speed. High gears, also known as over drive gears, e.g. allow your engine to run at a lower speed than the wheels in order to give you maximum fuel efficiency. And remember engine revs highest at 1st gear, as you keep on going up the engine is allowed to rev lesser and lesser. At 4th gear engine rev is equal to rev of spinning wheels. So, when you down shift to 4th gear, or from 4th to 3rd, they advise you to apply brakes to lower speed and clutch, close the throttle(Let go of the accelerator) downshift and slowly let go of the clutch and simultaneously open the throttle. This is one proper technique of the rev matching. It is slow, and not very efficient. You lose power in the process. But any failure to do the proper closing and opening of throttle and use of clutch will lock your rear wheels and you are going to fall down. And while trying to overtake, you can overtake the vehicle at a lower gear(Other than 4th n 5th), possibly in 3rd. So, the power is needed. In our traditional method we loose the power.
5) 2nd Technique to rev match While downshifting, pro bikers, use the clutch lever, just blip their throttles a bit(twisting the accelerator, slightly to increase engine speed), they downshift and let goof the clutch. Clutch, Blipping and downshift act simultaneously. You will be in full power and you won’t have to reduce your speed. Very good technique. 0 chances of wheel locks will be there if done properly. 6) Use proper tires and pressure. Remember, all the biting force of the braking will have to be born by the front tire. And replace the tires at regular intervals 5 years or according to the condition of the tire treads.
You know about the rest of the boring stuffs like wear a helmet, wear appropriate clothing, sunglasses, visors, toolkit and insurance plan. Try to learn motorcycle from a driving school. I hope you will be taught very practically. Friends, brothers, uncles, brother and fathers give bro science facts, which have no relationship with actual science.

Point 2 discusses about how bikes react under braking. Well, it is not entirely true. The phenomenon which causes front suspension to squeeze inwards a bit while braking is called brake dive. Engineers have spent a lot of time to address this. Have you seen Escorts Yamaha Rajdoot 175 motorcycles? If you have observed the front suspension assembly closely, you can find there is a thick front suspension unit(not telescopic but placed upside down type) connected to a robust triple clamp(Google them grinning ), and black rod extends from that connection, placed behind the suspension module. At the end of the rod there is a rod, which is extended and connect the wheels. It is called an Earl’s fork. Google Earl’s fork to find more info. Here the front suspension unit behaves opposite to that of normal telescopic forks. See your Honda Activa 110, 3G, 4G, 5G front suspension unit. Those are miniature version of the earlier Earl’s fork. BMW produces its own version of anti brake dive units (Duolever, Google Duolever), Honda uses such a technology in its high end Valkyrie ,Edit: Rune models https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcycle_fork#/.... And how effective(I said 70% of the break force) the font brake is during braking depends upon the geometric design of the bikes. Cruisers and other long wheel versions of motorcycle benefit greatly from rear brakes, Moto GP bike use rear brake only during trail braking(Google trail breaking), when they break you can see their rear wheels almost lifts to air. Those are designed in that way. That’s why modern manufacturers are offering combi breaks, a trend started by Honda. smile

That’s why practice bhai. Practice regularly. Jab bhi turning leta hun yaa left right jata hun hat automatically chala jata mera, I don’t think anymore 🙂
