Hi! I have moved to Bangalore for my first job which is near whitefield. this is the first time I am gng to stay in that city so need some advices from local dimers.
Here r few of my queries,
1) first and foremost PG or flat? I can spend abt 12k-15k for good food and safe accom so which will be better?
2) Many of my friends were telling we need to pay 1 yr advance to owner. Is it the case in all the places? And I read somewhere abt restrictions for bachelors in some communities…Is it true?
3)And i have heard lots of stories abt bangalore traffic so is it better to take bus pass and travel in bus or buy a second hand bike?Or else r der any good place for renting bikes?
4) I am used to buy things from wholesale shops in hyd which give reasonable discounts on day-day items. Are there any similar places in b’lore or is it better to buy from online grocery?
5) Any suggestions for good buffets/restaurnts for cheap prices in groupon or any odr similar site?
It would be of great help if any can also mention some extra points abt security, food, local deals and evn things new comers in the city should avoid or watch out for. TIAedit: I am looking forward to write CAT so if anyone knows any good coaching centres near whitefields or marathalli plz let me know.

7 months.. & that tomorrow never came. You seem very busy
OK Here is my REVIEW POST on bangalore days
i think i am in a position to answer all the doubts which I had 8 months back.
Sorry for the delay in posting the experiance tnx to @IndianDimer for reminding me to answer. Hope this s useful for ppl moving to bangalore.
So first comes Accomodation: I fu happen to visit blr for jobs or interviews or exams and u need pace to stay then dont spend too much money on MMT/oyo rooms/goibibo unless u get some 80% discounts. U will find PG in every corner of the city. Just go and pay day- day rent which would cost arnd 300-600 including food depending on area/quality of food/sharing rooms. Monthly rent would be arnd 6-8k for double sharing rooms in a descent PG.
Once ur place is fixed u can continue in PG for 5-6 months until u have some savings and find good flatmates to move into flat! For searching flats u have plethora of options and choose something which fits in ur budget.
Basically u have 3 types of flates in bangalore:
1) Closely packed buildings where distance between ur wall and neighbrs wall is less than 1 feet. Very less scope of ventilationa nd sunlight. If u r spending too much time in office and less/no time at home then this is best. typically 2 bhk will be arnd 14-16k
2) little descent apts: Traditional 4-5 storied apts like any other city which have basic facilities like power backup, 24 7 watchman/istri wala, etc This type are value for money if u dont want too much royalty or too much congestion. U might get 2 bk for arnd 18-20k in such places.
3) Gated communities; These can be still divided on basis o luxury but i intend to keep all in single categry. U have all facilities like swmng pool, gym, tennis, jogging etc. Maintance will be insanely high. Typically 3 bhk would start arnd 35k and in premium ones like villas it can go as high as 1L for 4 bhk villa. If u r bachelor i wouldnt recommend u unless u r earning shit loads of money. Most of the places u need to pay min 6 months advance upfront, so thats like around 2L at the least.
typically they look like this ;
2)Most of the owners ask for 6 months advance and keep 1 month rent as painting charges. I hope doubts in accomadation section are cleared.
3) Traffic: Jio was a lifesaver for all the bangaloreons stuck in jams. After the days of free internet ppl will feel the heat again. Most of thembuys a car or a bike after joining job so think how many lakhs of vehicles will be on road. All tech parks are located close to each other and during typical office hrs ppl walking fo faster than ones on bike. I advice u to take house/pg within 5-6 km from office, which would also take arnd 30 mins atleast in traffic. Google maps will be ur best friend. Search for shortcuts and stay away from bottle necks. And there r so many AC buses going arnd city through out the day. Take ac bus pass which costs arnd 2500 and u can happily travel arnd with ease. BMTC buses are always crowded. WIndows of the buses r too narrow as they give more pref to advertisemnts. evn the cost is very high. Even for 2 stops u have to take 12 rs ticket.
4) Big basket, groffers, amazon now, amazon pantry all have amazing service in blr. I dont buy much stuff so cant judge which is good.
5) Best thing abt bangalore is food. U get all types of cuisines her at all price ranges. Office cafeteries provide good quality food at nominal cost. U also find hell lots of andhra/tamil/kerala/odisha/bengali/punjabi food shops in every locality. So u would never miss ur local cuisines. Do check out Hotels in Koramangala. Food is amazing in that part of the city.
If u r from south its very easy to get accustomed here. Most of the auto walas/cab drivers speak kannada/telugu/tamil/hindi comfartbly.
Everyone used to praise bangalore climate but I havent found much difference from Hyd climate. Winters were much cooler in hyd. But i did notce some differenece between core bangalore region which is full of greenery and outer area which has turned into concrete jungle.
It has been exciting journey so far in the garden city! I think blr has lagged behind with metro connectivity else most of the traffic and pollution issues wouldnt have existed.
Thanks for reading . Do add some suggestions/ Good places/restraunts to visit with friends ina nd around BLR
