superstition
/ˌsuːpəˈstɪʃ(ə)n,ˌsjuː-/
noun
a widely held but irrational belief in supernatural influences, especially as leading to good
or bad luck, or a practice based on such a belief.

1. When you start following a practice with a belief that it will do good/some supernatural force will be satisfied it’s certainly IS a superstition.

2. Why we Indians ALWAYS turn an argument to ‘not worse than that’ statement? WHY? It doesn’t make this any subtle if you think you make a point with that argument.

Murder>rape

So by your logic rape is maybe plausible?

3. Butterflyboy answered pretty well how to deal with your loss. https://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/t...

4. “Few days back some guys were burning little puppies just for fun and that time too few ppl were saying why caring for just dogs so much !”
—-I don’t know how that is relevant here.

5. " why you ppl bring poverty/rapes/type big issues"
—-Coz the issue with our society and it’s problems lies with the basic principles(that our culture was based on) has been forgotten and now we follow a tradition blindly and call it our culture. Ironically, the very same people that cry that we have forgotten our culture have no knowledge of what exactly what they are talking about. It had been pulverized and maligned by a handful of people who have self appointed themselves our culture’s ‘messiahs/protectors’. No Hindu ever tries to read the books that formulate our religion/culture. All our knowledge of our own culture and religion comes from local priests or some baba. Whom I despise.

6. “And FYI , only those people fall in superstition who have no firm believe in their God .”
—-Can you differentiate between the two today? FYI, the people falling prey to superstitions are the very same people who have blind faith. Believing in God and performing a ritual to satisfy God’s(ultimately your own) need is very different but practically both are sold as package.

@ranjithsai01
1. You are right stopping some idiot to donate 1Cr. 24carat gold ‘Mukut’ to a temple will not transform into him materialising that money into some charity. But, it certainly will discourage others doing that and CERTAINLY will add less unaccounted wealth in the wrong hands.

2. I have insulted and chased off Babas. Faced wrath of my superstitious family but I never gave up. I stand and account for only myself. I HAVE the balls do it and I wish to go on a public stage where I have no anonymity like here and chastise the criminals of our culture.

3. The root lies in the principle. When we forget our principles we wander off our track.

Please never compare rape with anything else. That would be really sick for anyone to support or extrapolate someone’s comment to something as evil as rape. Fight against superstition is good but always trivial (I will keep reiterating that and you may beg to differ). But fight against poverty, corruption, hunger is what needs to be done. I never argued about “this not worse that that”, but with our limited energies and resources it has to be channelized in the best way.

Again I say chasing and maligning some babas doesn’t prove anything worth (I was really hoping and thought you were unlike many of us who has fought against someone with power- really not judging though). Supporting them is wrong but they just do that for 2 morsels of food (not talking about those big pundits who make a fortune. In fact my dad always gives them some money and send them off saying hes not interested in their so called “auspicious” words). Just because something is sold as a package please don’t weigh everyone in the same balance. All god believers are not necessarily superstitious or maybe you have mostly seen them in that set up.

PS- I am considered to be the non-“sanskari” atheist guy in my family and extended families mostly because of my dad’s influence who is against such things. But both of us strongly believe in god (dad has too many reasons for it).

Edit- By the way what was that logic of murder>rape? Rape is the most henious crime and can be no comparison. But one sort of social evil is always comparable to another and the right one needs to be picked to be fought against.

First read my comments. I clearly mention that everyone has the right to follow one’s religion but don’t wander off the boundary line where sanity ends and superstition begins. That’s the summary for you. And superstition is not a subjective matter it can be judged. The reason I discourage people is coz when I see others falling prey in the name of religion it hurts me. That is the reason I stopped believing in God and religion. It has lost it’s purpose.

1. See whom the post was addressed(first part) and his comment.

2. “Again I say chasing and maligning some babas doesn’t prove anything worth (I was really hoping and thought you were unlike many of us who has fought against someone with power”
--Sorry if I failed on your scale of bravery. But do enlighten me further.

3. “Supporting them is wrong but they just do that for 2 morsels of food”
—-You haven’t understood the meaning of any of my posts. Who propagates their agendas? Who spreads superstitions?

4. “Just because something is sold as a package please don’t weigh everyone in the same balance”
—-My rant isn’t about exceptions. I believe in spirituality and firmly believe that a person should have faith in a supreme being.

for them every story in all the holy books is not more than myth , no issue but at least they should not mock or force to those who do practice their religion with no harm to others .

1. yes you right those who do worship for excess greed / expecting some supernatural change in their life and to expect that change they even crosses the limits , is certainly a superstition , but not as per wikipedia , it is common thing who every one knows who do worship their god .

2. bro plz dont drag me in the thought which i cant expect , murder>rape , this thing is not acceptable , i said only that rituals/hawans dont harm to any one , and other acts do harm , but you given twist and brought murder and rape to compare above 2 situations , which is totally irrelevant , murder+rape any of that crime will harm to victims , so cant relate why did you compare my comment to these 2 crimes !

3. there is saying suno sabki karo man ki , butterfly really did good answer for this loss ,and he is right in adoption case , but he did not criticizing or forcing or mocking op to leave his thoughts . so everyone is free and everyone is mature/intelligent to practice his thoughts .

4. i did mentioned that news bcoz people are too senseless when humanity talks come over any animal abused just for fun .

5. bro where ‘hindu’ word came ? people of every religion do follow their rituals , bcoz poojas (name may be different) are also done by other people . and superstition is not related to just 1 community .
and why you think in this case baba suggested him to do pooja for his dog . babas time over , people do listen them but also think on their preaches , and every baba / spritual guru is not same .

6. dont want to comment , bcoz my thoughts differ person to person , you may not like so dont do , but who do like let him do until it is not affecting any other .

.
now according to your reply , i agreed on all your facts . really . bcoz
that money donated to any temple/mosque/gurudwara/any religious place should be used in nation favor , adding that wealth and no proper accountability on that money will be what god will not like , people do donate crores there but outside they dont even bother to care for people who needed that much . that money should be used properly . and best thing the person who donate so much money , he should donate big part directly to needed person and small part to run that temple daily activities .

btw i respect your views and dont feel offence for my any of reply , my only point of view is if these rituals can do give relief to op then we should let him do that .
